People are taking that out of context. Yao proved last night that he's the leader and his soldiers will follow!
He's been the leader for the last 2 years now. If any of you remember how good Yao was in the 06-07 season pre-knee injury. JVG wanted Yao to be the leader and Yao was considered the favorite to win the MVP at that point. Honestly, I strictly remember Yao Ming having 6 straight 30 point-games in November that was how good he was then. It's no surprise he's our current leader now, anybody who doesn't realize that is just a bitter T-Mac fan that can't accept Yao's current greatness.
He may be our number 1 option. But I don't think he is our leader. He is an all star and game 1 against the lakers proved that he can lead us in that game. But I wonder how long he can last against the lakers. If he can proved consistencies throughout the whole series and emerged into a superstar, he is our leader. But he have to proved he can do that. Our best leader right now is Shane Battier. Even though he don't score and put up great numbers, he bring his leadership and toughness.
Many of us had said that Yao has to lead by example, and that's exactly what he's been doing this playoffs. From Game 1 of the Portland series, the big fella has been all business. It's great to watch.
I have been waiting for Yao to take over for 7 years...I think Tmac going out had a lot to do with it. Yao is the guy, and should be....the guy. DD
Yao has been a total stud so far. If the Lakers don't double team him, we're going to win this series for sure. If Yao stays out of foul trouble, in my heart, we're going to win this series.

Nice. Do we have the vid straight from tnt though? The entire scene from when he injured his knee to when he comes back to the bench.
Agreed completely. These are the elements that would inspire the whole team to fight hard and eventually reach the contender's level. It takes five to win, just as our superstar TMac says in his commercial, except that it's only on commercial for him.
the game where he literally quit playing and escorted jamario moon for a dunk. there have always been warning signs. like in the playoffs when there's 5 seconds left in a half, and he walks the ball up court, only to pass to CHUCK HAYES for a half court heave. t-mac always had no heart and no desire. when the going gets tough, t-mac gets going. please trade this guy while he still has some interest throughout the league. i know for a fact a t-mac trade will be a lot like denver trading iverson to the pistons. he'll be exposed as a one dimensional player and his legacy diminished. now everyones asking, who will want iverson now? please trade t-mac, before we ask "who will want t-mac now?"
