Everyone bags on NBA Live 2003 and, admittedly, out of the box, the gameplay is far too running-oriented and block-heavy. But after I tried out some nice roster patches made by other users, it became much more realistic, competitive and playable (look on www.nba-live.com in the Live 2003 Forum for links to roster patches). The thing I really love about Live 2003, though, is the Freestyle control. I use a PS/2-style controller with dual sticks and the right stick allows you to do the most sick crossovers and spin moves. Using Francis, I can ISO and get to the rim at almost any time with the amazing dribble control the Freestyle stick gives. Sure it's gimmicky, but jeez it's fun. And basically it's the only PC-based bball game available, so I'm stuck with it even if I hated it. If anyone else was making a PC hoop game worth anything (and I don't count NBA Street as a real bball game), I'd try it out. But I've been playing the Live series since Live 97, and I'm pretty invested in it already.
midway is by far the best sports gaming company. they should make a basketball game with the fire that they have in slugfest and blitz. plus their graphics are unbeatable. all the players in their games look real. the graphics on live dont look great.
I'm originally from Mobile, a ten hour drive on I-10 from H-town. I went to the U of A and thus my handle, Bamaslammer.
I don't think anybody here has addressed the video-game cover curse. Wasn't Steve on the cover of NBA Live 2002? Yikes! The year Marshall Faulk was on the cover of Madden (?) was the year he was injured! I'm sure there are more examples....be afraid, be very afraid!
Never thought about it like that, but come to think about it........ Guess it's like the cover of SI curse?
Don't have an XBox, but unless I'm mistaken, I couldn't get XBox Live anyways. I live in a pretty rural area so dialup in the best I can get and I don't think I could play other people. If I could, I definitly would have had the online stuff. Instead, I have to stick to the "hard sliders" and the computer or friends who like shooting 3's, even though I sometimes set the 3pt slider to nothing. BTW, can't you get the online updates for 2k3? I'm pretty sure you can if you have online capabilities. That way you can get Yao without creating him. I had to create him too, but I used the stuff that I believe they gave him on the update that I found on the internet. I think he was an 81 overall. He was pretty cool, but he kind of sucked during franchise. I didn't realize CAP's stay the same during franchise. I REALLY wanted Yao to get better so I could kick even more computer butt with Yao. But 5 seasons went by and he was still a 81 despite averaging like 26ppg 15rpg 4bpg 5apg and like 3spg for his career. Instead, I had to go for the draft and get a Shaq clone who could shot 90% at FT's. Oh well... I don't know if this counts, but J Kidd was on Live 2003 I believe and he got eliminated again in the finals. I think that sucks for him.
I woulda until that craptacular name change I hear NBA Live 2004 has gone sim and 2K4 has gone arcade, though. Either way, Live from what I hear is much improved. You couple that with Yao on the cover and possible GBA compatibility, and you got a game that I'm definitely buying. Oh, and uh... is this the right board for this? This topic was brought up a few months earlier and moved...
Im sure ea sports already have the designs of the new uni's, the details of the new arena, and the new logo......they're all gonna be "IN THE GAME!!!" Im sorry. i couldn't resist. The game looks great, cant wait to get it when it comes out, esp. if Yao is on the cover!
for those who have tried the NBA live 2004 in what ways have the freestyle moves been improved. ? What thing I didnt like was that there was too many blocks and the speed of the game was too fast to be realistic
And the worst part about the blocks, a lot of the time it goes into the stands and you get a turnover...BOO So i get like 30 block a game for the team and 20 TOs pergame from the shots going into the stands.
This is thread by FD is so popular, and FD is banned from this BBS for no reason. WHY???????????????????
NBA 2k3 franchise mode is great. It's a great simulation and it's just like you are the president of basketball operations or General Manager or whatever. And you're also the coach and scout and players! It's awesome... I don't know about Live. We will have to wait and see if it is good...and hopefully 2k4 is good too. NBA Baller!!! What an ugly game...creative plot though. In 2k3, Eddie Griffin improves so much. He has so much potential. He turns into a big star in 3 years every time. But probably in 2k4, he will remain at a steady level.... Nachbar becomes really good too...but not in real life. Oh well!
You do know that the game doesnt come for another 3 months right? That means these screenshots which were released back in MAY 2003 aren't the actual finished product. Just compare last years 2k3 with live. You'd have to be really blind to think live looks better...
