Am I the only one who's extremely bothered by Yao's "i'm gonna will the ball in by leaning slightly forwards" followthrough?
i thought u meant literally on the follow through, but it's well after it....has he done this before? It could just be tight hip flexors from sitting around so much since surgery.
I have a feeling he'll be facing up more...shooting a lot of jump shots this season in lieu of banging/posting up....especially when Lowry's at the point...allowing him to penetrate more/get to the foul line. Facing up will allow him to get his shot going...defense will be looking for him to shoot since he'll be shooting more...then here comes the pump fakes...easy baskets in the lane. I'm sure Rockets have a plan to where Yao wont have to work as hard to score this season.
I notice on his shots he is planting his right foot and moving his left foot forward when shooting. That is wrong. He should be planting his left food and sliding his right foot forward when shooting with the right hand. I teach my girls bball team that all the time. Moving your left foot forward to shoot a right hand shot goes against your natural body movement and will make you shoot short very often (as seen in this video) Oh well, its just a practice video, nothing major just something I noticed right off. I'm just glad to see him able to be on the court doing anything.
A shooter doesn't care what type of goal he's shooting on...what type of net etc. If you're a shooter, it definitely wouldn't affect your shot. That's probably the last thing Yao's thinking about.
Yao 25 mins Scola 30 mins Ariza 30 mins Martin 32 mins Brooks 32 mins Lowery 25 mins Taylor 16mins Budinger 16 mins Battier 2mins Hill 14mins Patty 4mins Miller 15 mins Hayes 8mins If Adelman , for a change, helps the younger players to develop.
You are right about that. But it seems natural to him and if he's been shooting like that his entire life there's no need to change it. OR maybe it's because he had surgery on his left foot and he doesn't want to put his entire weight on that foot if he were to plant it.
he's doing it "right" on the other side of the court....maybe he's been compensating for the injured foot by planting right, but more than likely he's used to shooting quickly in this drills, so he turns to face the passer and then turns back in, so the plant foot changes on each side of the court. Not sure if he does it in games though...
He's a bit rusty. He did better when he was injured and was shooting in a chair. Maybe all those people and scrubs playing in the background.
Yeah it is typically difficult for people to plant their left foot when going from the right side to the left side of the court. It takes a little work to get the footwork down. It is more natural going left to right. I have my girls doing that drill over and over til they get it hahaha Yeah, im not being picky with Yao in this video because ya'll are correct, could be just him getting used to planting that left foot and putting weight on it.
I don't know why anybody didn't post louder audio of the shoot around, but this is what song they were playing when Yao was shooting...
