I agree this has been a down year for Ben but any Hype ben has he has because he earned the rep, could you tell me what Yao's defensive PER was last year compared to big ben. 1 injury plagued year isnt goin to convince me Yao is the better overall defender. Having Tayshaun and Sheed do help but hes put up high defensive per numbers without them before and hes the main constant on some of the nba's great defensive teams. That bein said I think Bruce Bowen shouldve won the award this year if not Duncan.
Man, here is another rookie just join the club abd think he knows everything. Pistons are very good at rotation and Ben is not good one-to-one defender at all. his excellent weak side defense makes his DPOY. He got so many helps from his teammates because of their fast rotation. PnR is not effective weapon to Pistons. What do you mean "its hard to score on 7"5 but bein the better man defender doesn necessarily meen your the better defender" Do you understand the basketball? A good defender would understand utilize his body, or say use his strength to play. YAO's 7-5 provide his ability to alter many shots. It's not that easy, my friend. Timing, timing, timing! He play good D, then he is good defender, period! However, 310 pds makes his slow and this is why he will never be DPOY. Don't use YAO's height to back you up, It gives him advantage, also disadvantage. I clearly know that you are a pure YOH.
Totally agree, Ben wallace does not take part in the offence at all. If Yao did that, he could get 15 rebounds and 3-4 block shots per game. And according to the performance Shaq has put on in the playoff, I can get peace with the fact that he's been chosen the first team center. But Yao should at least get on the all nba second team. BTW, Elton Brand is also an underrated player.

Yao has been robbed for 2nd team.. and Shaq's performance and success gives him a free pass this year (next Year, it's gonna be Yao).. and I hate to say it, but Brand is an underrated player.. I want the SUns to win, but I dont they will with Brand putting up crazy #'s... the problem is, I've never seen him play that well !!..or maybe I've never paid attention to his skills..
Apparently you are possibly still confused? Yao Ming was the best all round Center in the NBA last season. [Stats] and outdistanced himself from others by his play after returning from the toe surgery. Yao Ming was not robbbed for a place on the second team !! He was robbed for a place on the first team!! No question about it!!

Get over yourself allready Ive been debating basketball on other forums and couldnt join untill recently and just because my post total isnt as big as yours doesnt make my oppinion less thought out than yours. Anyways back to basketball, what do you meen I used yaos height to back me up its true. If you think its just as easy to create a shot with a 7"5 gaurding you as it is having a 6"9 guy gaurding you then it is you who doesnt understand basketball. Ben is the better overall defender due to the fact that he is best help defender in the league and he doesnt exactly get lit up himself. And with the direction the nba is goin in speed and quickness in the post are a premium. Why do you think the Pistons were so good defensively, because both Sheed and Ben cover alot of ground quickly with their length and quickness one of which Yao is lacking.
PS I just looked it up and I found out that Shaq was actually double more than Yao was. You make your own conclusion from that.
But Sir isn't the the first, second and third team made up based on individual performances and nothing to do with team wins? I say outdistanced himself and I mean outdistanced himself! I saw every game after Yao Ming returned to the active roster and his performances drew raves from many comentators and he was spoken of as now being the best center in the NBA. I thought it was common knowledge! At least everyone in Texas knows about it!

Anyways dude look at the history of the nba they never give out 1st team to Center who missed the playoffs when the guy he is competing with had very comparable stats but was in the playoffs. Team success will always have an impact on all nba ballots just look at KG. He didnt even make the team but I doubt anyone of us wouldnt consider him a top 5-10 player in the NBA. But these awards arent ONLY about who has better stats. Its about who had the most succesfull season as well
Of course Yao's height makes it harder for his opponents. That's an argument in favor of Yao's defensive abilities. Is that why he gave up more points per minute and on a higher FG% than Yao did?
the confusion smiley was for Elton Brand issue, not Yao's.. and I explained why it's alright for Shaq to have 1st team. so we dont have a problem with that, our problem is with Ben Wallace.. but if the stupid coaches and experts picked 4 pistons to the Allstar game and didn't take Pierce or Redd, then it's no surprise that They picked Ben for 2nd team.. I dont understand why they do that, and the Pistons keep saying that they dont get enough credit, well, actually, they get more than the credit they deserve.. I wanna know how in hell is Hamilton an allstar, Billups an MVP candidate, and Ben NBA 2nd team... from all that crap and BS in those picks, it tells me that they pick them based on team performance, of course, team performance is very important, but u cant say that Ben led his team to success, his team carried him to success, so he doesn't deserve 2nd team or even 3rd team.. after all, IT DOESN'T MATTER WHO THEY PICK, screw them, great players dont need people to give them credit, they just keep doing what they do and make experts eat their words.. I mean, look at Hakeem, nobody even mentions him in the top 5 centers in NBA history.. but he is actually THE BEST PLAYER TO EVER PLAY THE GAME.. do all these experts make any difference ? NO.. he is still IMO the best player to play the game and everybody knows that..it's that simple... stop arguing everybody.. Yao got robbed, OK, it's actually better for him, it will be motivation for him.. and it will feel much BETTER next year when u see the experts eating their words and sayin "we made a mistake, we should've given Yao more credit".. I love to see them do that, to see them regret what they said .. didn't y'all feel great when we saw Barkley kissing the donkey's a$$ after he said Yao wont score 19 points.. I was so happy .. and we will hopefully see Steve Kerr (Kaman's boy) do the same thing next year...
guys, stop $hittin yourselves by comparing Yao's Defense to Ben's.. u dont have to do that.. everybody knows that Ben is better DEFENSIVELY, but Yao is WAY BETTER THAN THE GURILLA IN EVERY SINGLE OTHER THING!!.. I dont understand why people are trying to argue in favor of Yao and bring up Defense..Ben Wallace cant do anything other than DEfense, he sucks at everything, my little brother can shoot better than him, Shawn Bradley can post-up better than him... Ben is a Defensive specialist, he is in the NBA because of his Defense..well, if he is getting paid big Bucks and cant do anything on the court offensively, he better be a darn good defender... Yao is "alright" defensively,he has improved a lot since he came back from injury.. I am sure he can improve even more if we got Hakeem to be his coach instead of Ewing and Thibodeaux.. those two are just sitting there doing NOTHING or looking at the cheerleaders.. dont say that Thibodeaux spent time with Yao and helped him, u cant give him any credit for Yao's development.. Yao improved by himself, not because of Thibodeaux and Pat.. everybody knows that Yao is 10 times the player Ben is, no comparison.. so please stop trying to compare their stats and their Defense.. it's not even a debate..
one more thing, out of curiosity: I dont have an idea why they classify Ben as center and they classify KG, Duncan, Brand, and Dwight Howard as Power forwards.. I just dont get it.. is there a criteria for that or something ?? anybody knows ??
Who exactly did Yao have to gaurd in the 52 games he had to play? Let see there was Ilgauskas once and Kaman, Eddy Curry once oh yeah and Brad Miller. Ben gaurded Zydrunas 4 times this season, Brad Miller twice, Shaq 4 times, Jermaine Oneal, Yao, Curry twice. Yao hasnt played enough games to be lit up by the few offensive oriented Centers in this league so excuse me if Im not impressed
Its their position of choice. Dwight is a center in the making though. Sheed likes to play the perimiter as does KG so the PF is his most natural position of course on defense sheed is the pistons best post defender. As for Brand hes a natural pf at 6"8. Duncan is a pf/c and is playin C alot, against the Mavs hes their only bigman at times. I guess it doesnt really matter what your listed as unless its changing your style of play like Ive heard Jermaine complain about not wanting to play Center anymore because his body is takin to much punishment.

This is a good pro-Rockets BBS and at least show your respect to other seniors. No one denys Ben is better defender. But YAO is big man with 7'5 and nothing wrong with it. Ben gets quickness and YAO has the height. My point is you try to say YAO ONLY can defend ONLY due to his height. And you are such YOH.
Yes, Ben is a better overall defender, but at least I won't overstate Ben's defense by saying comments "Yao can't defend like crap". It's OBVIOUSLY a hater's comment. And that's the reason why guys on this board trying to defend Yao because Yao is A GOOD DEFENDER at the very least. I think the drop of Yao's opponents' PPG and FG% is a strong enough evidence to say my point. Don't try to say $hit like "don't go back to stats" again. Otherwise just say Dampier is better than Yao. Period.
