What's so good about being Hakeem? We already had one superstar who was a victim because he was too low key. Don't make it two. I believe Yao felt good letting it out.
Sure they did. Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell and Oscar Robertson probably swore a lot too. The difference is no one celebrated them for doing so.
Dream was never victimized for being too low key. For that matter Tim Duncan hasn't been victimized for being low key. Both those guys let their play do most of the talking for them.
I think you guys need to stop scrutinizing everything Yao says and does. He's 7'6, a very good basketball player, but he's human too. Everyone wants him to be aggressive, he's trying his best to do so. No, cursing isn't aggressiveness. But you got to understand, it was something naturally flowed with the game, when he was fouled hard, constantly, but he scored despite that. He was proud and even cocky at the moment, and he wasn't happy about the treatment, so it just came out. Do some of you really think Yao Ming carefully calculated everything before he cursed, to impress refs and casual fans? Give me a break. I am sure they trash talked a lot during practice as well, I am sure Yao Ming picked it up and does that as well. So, he said that on the court. Big deal. For those who claimed to be Chinese and uncomfortable with him throwing out the F-bomb after 5 years, please, please, look around, find me one Chinese you know who never cursed in his entire life. On the other hand, I don't think it's evidence of maturity crap either. It came with the situation, which means Yao Ming is more comfortable with the language. You are in the game, high intensity, and very aggressive game. You can't switch your aggreesiveness and mean streak on and off - take the ball strong to the hole, after your scoring, pat your opponent and ask how they are doing and whether he bumped into them or hurt them. That's bipolar, not a normal person. I am glad he lets his emotion fly, although I wouldn't celebrate just because he threw the bomb. He continues this aggressiveness and confidence. The sky is the limit.
your whole attitude about this is the equivalent of the CHinese team forcing Yao to go back and play useless summer games. It just sets him back from the NBA game. The NBA game is what it is. Stop trying to throw your ideals or morals on Yao. He cursed cuz he got into the emotions of the moment, deal with it and move on. Have you ever played basketball in the playground, which is where a lot of the NBA players grew up on? Cuz honestly, I would run you over and laugh at you while you're crying about a charge or how I hurt you. Not saying I would do that now, but those are the rules on the playground. If you come off as being soft, you're gonna get treated that way. One of the ways to show you ain't soft is by your play AND challenging other players. To say your play will do that is ridiculous, why do you think nice guys like Grant Hill, Allan Houston, David Robinson, all guys who had nice stats, were perceived as soft? If Yao is going to shed that soft label, he has to adapt to the rules of the other players.
Yes and No. "Na Ge" (sounds like Ni Gar when you speak fast) means "That One" in Chinese. But "Na Ge" is also used as a filler during phone conversation when you are hesitating what to say, like "then", "so", ... My German colleague has asked me quite a few times after I got off the phone with Chinese friends, to make sure I didn't mean what he thought was.
I have always been a huge Yao guy but this put's it over the top for me! I said it before and I will say it again, Yao should of been droped off at Fonde rec center for 6 months and had Moses Malone teach him how to bang like a man, talk trash and learn american slang. I felt bad for him watching that movie but here we are in year 5 and Yao has become the most dominate force in the game and that swagger and attitude has helped to put him over the top.
that was awsome..thanks for the Youtube.....now he needs to drop a few Fbombs on the refs and they will start to respect him...
To me the big deal should be that NBA players stop getting the idea they can slash Yao Ming with their fingernails, and hammer him with impunity and not suffer any consequences. I think Yao Ming is getting tired of it. Do you know what I would do if some punk slashed me with his nails and I had a scar for the rest of my life. Just like others said here - you go out on the court or on the edge of the court and you deal with it, or you become known as a soft p*ssy. If you don't fight back then they keep knocking you down and slashing you. And my next point would be - no-one ever thought they could either knock down or slash Bird or Jordan or Magic and get away with it. No one slashes Shaq or KG or Dwade or Lebron. This is a big cultural difference - this is like Star Trek and sending a Vulcan officer to serve on a Klingon ship. The Klingons are anything but p*ssys in fact just the opposite. The Vulcan must adjust and show himself strong by Klingon rules or be totally disrespected. If we sent AI to China for 5 years I would expect him to come back a different person. He might even show up for practice.
absolutely right. just ask clyde about their battles. jordan used every cuss word in the book, and then some.
Or more likely they start giving him more technicals. I mean seriously if you're a ref and a player yells "F(ck You!" are you going to start respecting him more or are you going to start T-ing him up?
