The Starbury Crossover was due to poor lateral quickness and poor defensive footwork. Yao will never have great lateral quickness but his foot work on defense is much better.

Yao is wanting to trim weight so he can run with the team, not so he can keep from being crossed over in a half court defense.

I think what we will see is that once Yao is back, the team will play a half-court style with him in the game with some running and will play more run n gun when he is on the bench.

That makes it doubly hard for opposing teams to scout since they have to figure out both styles.

    that is like saying
when tmac returns, we'll let him dominate the ball when he's on the court
and play our motion offence when he's not
    is that what we want?

I hope he doesn't lose to much of his strength and this turns out like Steve Slaton putting on weight and muscles to become a bigger running back.

a 300 plus lb center will never outrun a 200lb guard.

you can try but that shouldn't be your goal, ever.

I think what the poster is trying to say and i've said this before is Yao needs to diversify his game. I think if he studies better, he will understand the passing angles better. By understanding the passing angles, he can anticipate the pass and hit cutters vs waiting for a guy to get open. Much like a nfl qb, you have to pass the ball as the guy is coming open as opposed to passing the ball after the guy is already open.

Diversifying his game. I think the days of pound it in and pound it down are leaving, but Yao is a good enough player that you want him in the game and on the team. So he needs to have his mind set and being comfortable playing away from the basket. I think yao is a great shooter and when he has his mind on shooting the ball, he's really good. I don't want yao to become strictly a 15 ft jump shooter, but when he gets in a pick and pop situation, without hesitation, he needs to shoot the ball. Ideally, a Yao type of game to me would look like this: 2/4 from 15 ft, 3-6 from post ups, 4-5 free throws, and 2-3 offensive rebounds/broken plays/running the court. That would give him 16-20 pts without bogging down the offense trying to get him the ball everytime. Now some games, he will clearly have a easier time getting the ball in the post and some nights he will have a more difficult time, but it will all balance out.

i hope you're not flirting. that guy very obviously has had problems w/ yao. just out of my memory, i can tell you he's posted a lot of stuff about yao, hating for no reason.

i can debate with reasonable guys w/ a different opinion from mine, such as yourself. this guy, is just a waste of my time.
