Although many posters here doubted the credibility of Sina's articles but actually it is just a portal where ariticles from different news agencies or media in China were quoted. They did a bad job in filtering fraud or make-up articles but there are also a number of agencies or media with good reputation and have reporters stationed in Houston to follow Yao's news.
I think Pryuen did do some filtering works on those articles she (I don't know why, but I tends to believe that Pryuen is actually a lady, sorry if I am wrong :p ) chose to translate. This article was posted by a reporter call Wang Meng stationed in Houston and he is from a sports newspaper called "Basketball Pioneer Post" (I bet Pryuen would have a better translation). Sina stated at the end of the article that they are the exclusive internet agency to this "Basketball Pioneer Post" while other media or portal shall not quote articles from this source. At least Sina won't mind to take legal resposibility for this post.

Pryuen, you did a great job to translate those Chinese articles for folks here and I always wish I could manage English to your level. IMHO, our foreign friends here would feel more comfortable if you could quote the name of the reporter and news agency in your future posts, just like what they did when they quoted articles from sources like Chronicles, Times, etc. Looking forward to seeing more quality translation from you. :)

So, Mr. Chadha, can you please tell me, is Mr. Gorkum the plaintiff or defendant in this case?

You make a valid point, since he was doing the opposite of his new philosophy in the 2nd half. I wonder what we will see against the other elite teams.

That's not exactly what happened. What Yao did was hold the ball and intentionally draw the defense in close to him. He was wanting to get his teammates a wide open look or give them the opportunity to cut to the bucket for the easy 2, like Juwan did the ONE time the whole game.

It wasn't the typical, as soon as he receives the pass and sees the second defender heading his way, chucking the ball to the open teammate stuff that we have seen from him the last 4 years. It was the hesitation, hoping for a cutter or a shot up shooter wide open.

Problem was, Bogans, Rafer, and Luther kept catching and hesitating on the shot, and wound up throwing it back around the horn. And the other problem was......nobody cut to the hoop.

Those guys got too proud of the accomplishment of winning the 1st quarter and thought that was the game. Our intensity went down from the 2nd quarter on. We were just trying to hang on to the lead at the end of the 2nd. We lost that, then we just wanted to stay close the 3rd. We gapped further and then we were just content to keep it under 20 and counted it as a moral victory.

    Psssssssssssssshhhaw!!!!

But, Yao was not just throwing the ball out of the double. It was strategic but was met by failing teammates who were unwilling to shake their sack back down and make a play.

Yao was probably more fatigued in the 2nd half as he was not able to get really deep positions against the double team like he did in the 1st half. Maybe he didn't feel as comfortable shooting/driving further out thus passing out to his teammates. Despite this, I liked his chances better than our guards yesterday and was hoping he would shoot more often.

If Yao can be successful offensively even with the double-team, he truly can become an all-time great in the class of Shaquille, Wilt, Kareem, and of course, the Dream.

For the first time it's starting to look like he may be the one to carry us to the promised land, with Mcgrady being his sidekick (rather than the other way around).

I don't think the Suns took him out in the 2nd half, it was just that the man was obviously gassed out there. 2nd night of a back to back, playing big minutes, carrying the load offensively in both games with little help from Tmac.

There was a stretch in the third quarter where Yao got some very good looks, such as short jumpers, jumphooks, a driving layup attempt off the pick and roll, and even a dunk attempt. Unfortunately he missed all those shots. I've never seen him miss that many consecutive chipshots, so I'm writing it off to fatigue. They were still doubling, but he was still getting his shots. Completely different from the last time we played the Suns when Yao only took 2 shots in the first half.

YUP Yao Ming was not taken out in 2H by the Suns.

If you checked the play-by-play, he got 13 of his 27 points in 2H. Towards the middle of 4Q, he was even having cramps in his legs that he started to hobble, but still fought on to score 6 more points/2 rebounds before he basically ran out of gas and had to take rest on the bench.

And everyone had eyes had seen that when he was in no position to shoot, he passed out to his team mates with open looks, but his team mates failed to deliver, shooting a very poor and low 5/22 3-pointer.

On the other hand, did anyone see Tracy McGrady did what he used to be so good at in this match, i.e. penetrating and attacking the rim, drawing fouls if he could not score ?? Tracy McGrady ended the match without even 1 single free throw. He just kept doing his long-range and mid-range jumpers, and only scored 13 points (6/18 FG% 1/4 3-pointer%), barely making 33.3% FG%. That ain't All Star performance. Of course, we all understood he is going thru his lowest ebb in life losing one of his beloved ones.

Hey guys - I think Yao was talking about the Feb. 16th game against Phoenix. He was completely useless in that game and that's what he's referring to in this article - that Phoenix essentially took him out of the game by double-teaming him.

And I'm surprised that China taught him to just immediately pass out of a double team. That's a terrible thing to teach a dominant center.

only if he was their dominant center. ;) all he said was he was told to pass out of a double team when he was learning/training. i suspect it was more like at the very early stage of his career. even way before he led his shanghai sharks to the cba championship. cuz by then he was already dominant and scores 30+, 40+ easily in games. he couldn't score that much if he passed out the ball each time he saw a double team.

Great read....one thing I've noticed is Yao holding the ball above his head and using his elbows to get space when he's rebounding. He must have learned from Cookie Monster because not many people can use their elbows like he can! I love how he grabs the ball and swings them a few times to make space.

This is definitely the Yao we've all been hoping for. Keep it up, Yao! You're a joy to watch.

if Yao were to have an epiphany every season, he could eventually become a truly great player. his largest limitation is by far his own mind.
