Its honorary, right? So that's the same as, we like you so much,we're going to give you a dlctrate. Does yao have a degree in anything, just asking?
So basically he's 'awarded' a degree (title) that other people have to study their asses off for for 7-10 years, is that right?
So sayeth the people who will never amount to anything other than being "Anonymous" online, and who will never contribute anything worthwhile to humanity except stupid condescending and sarcastic Internet chatter. Great job, and thank you, Yao, for all that you have done. And I hope you get your Economics degree real soon now.
Happy for Yao, but sad that this what what the University of HK has become. Just trying to throw away doctorates to famous Chinese people. Yao has probably never set foot on the campus, other than to receive his doctorate.
LOL didn't he get awarded this in 2008? http://www.hku.hk/press/news_detail_5866.html HKU to award Honorary Degrees to HIV/ AIDS advocacy trio Former US President Bill Clinton, Dr David Ho and Mr Yao Ming 06 Nov 2008 Honorary degrees are for recognition. Mandela has loads http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_awards_and_honours_bestowed_upon_Nelson_Mandela Mandela even has one from HKU: "HKU's tradition of awarding honorary degrees began in 1916 and past awardees include Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela, Lee Kuan Yew, King Edward VIII, and Hu Shih."
Yao Ming does do a lot for good causes like http://yaomingblog.com/ His journey to Africa highlighting the issue of poachers of elephants and rhinos.
