sorry Brad Miller, i still say Yao has it. The purity of his stroke isnt seen as much because he often plays closer to the basket, but Yao has a career average of over .500 FG %, Brad Miller is close but not quite. Yao's shooting in mid range is so precise, I honestly think it is deadlier than any other center in the game right now.
We don't need to see it more than once or twice a game. When I watch Brad Miller play I want to puke sometimes. The dude is so soft and can't mix it up inside at all. We don't want Yao to end up like that.
I don't think I'm asking Big Yao to take away the job of other 3-pointer specialists on the team. IMHO, it's no harm if after those crispy passing and no-ball movement from his team mates that he is left all open with open look and he so decides to go for it. Big Yao has demonstrated he has the range for 3-pointers, and he can hit those sweet 19-ft to 20-ft jumpers regularly and consistently....and if I'm not mistaken, the NBA 3-point distance is 23.75 feet from the centre of the rim and 22 feet from the baseline.....and that will be just 3 feet more from those sweet 19-footers/20-footers that Yao Ming proved he is capable of making with such consistency and accuracy.
Yao's over .500FG%(low 50s) when he's at the low post exclusively. We will see where he ends up when he starts shooting in mid range like Brad Miller. I personally don't think Yao'll be clear cut more accurate than Brad Miller. that's why I think his mid-range game should be used only when he's struggling at the low post.
i don't understand why that would be such an exciting scenario for you. while it's kinda fun seeing Yao scoring beyond the arc, it definitely won't make him a better player and i thought you like the best for Yao.
Has anyone noticed how sweet his left hook shot is looking? I know he has done this in year's past but it looks very crisp. I saw the Rockets Insider on FSN and in the background you could see Yao knocking turn around left handed hooks on the left baseline like they were nothing. Now nobody was guarding him but it looked like he was working on that very much. It reminded me of Battier in the post where he pretends he is going in the lane and then spins and tries a left handed hook. It will be sweet if he can sink that consistently like I think he can. That is unstoppable.
I disagree ! Yao Ming should be alowed to be the versatile player he has always been.It will keep the other teams defence of balance!
Yao fits well with Adelmans system. Did u see how many outside shots he was making, n thats his game, low post, outside shots n great passing. Also Scola is gonna get alot more touches once he gets used to the NBA style. Too many foul troubles. Also Scola is a great passer, saw so many good passes but other players couldnt finish. With Yao, Scola, Tmac n Alston such great passers, this team looks solid. I still want Francis n James to fit the system, they are struggling. Franics looks like he is out to prove something, he just needs to play team ball n keep his composure.
LOL taking two or three shots from 3 pt range per game won't hurt us. Plus it's hard for people to remember that the NBA is a product that people pay to see. If you play boring basketball, you don't sell tickets. At the end of the day, that's what it's about. Selling tickets and making money. Yeah and it's icing on the cake when you win a championship but how many franchises can do that per year? One! So it's about the product, the potential, and the marketing. If the game is fun, people will pay to see it. I don't mind big Yao taking 2-3 3 pointers a game. If he makes one everyone will be on their feet. Stevie will get his minutes ya know why? Again, Franchise sells tickets. He's a feel good story waiting to happen and people want to see that. There are enough haters who want to see him fail too and will pay good money to see him flop. "He who has the money makes the rules" True in business, true in sports, true in life.
Yao has looked amazing. His hard work and study really shows. One thing I really like about him is that he dutifully works hard to keep getting better. He obviously has an endless amount of ways to score that he didn't get a chance to show the last few years. I did notice that on a couple of plays, Yao was at the free throw line and a teammate (like Bonzi) would be drawing attention and then Yao just runs straight to the rim for an easy hoop after Bonzi passes it to him. I don't advocate Yao shooting 3's....but since he's like 90% or more from the free throw line and reportedly is really accurate from beyond the arc in practice, do you think there could be special situations where we need a 3 at the end of the game and he's our secret surprise?
First of all Yao is agressive. He's got more open positions but look how he's attackin'. I like that. And the mid range jumphot. I tought he would be worse at it but damn, he's really good
He looks dam good and it's only the preseason. I can't imagine how good he'll be when he realizes all the ins and outs of the offense. Some were saying how Yao couldn't fit in an uptempo offense.....well, not only does look great out there....it looks like he's a lot fresher and has more freedom to score all over the floor.
That was because of his injury. He's agressive again. He doesn't care about his earlier injuries. The same thing with McGrady. They just feel they're "free" again. Damn, the season should be really great
