Yao Ming Fears His Return Will Disrupt the Rockets

I am not a single bit worried because:

    1. Yao is workoholic, not egoholic. Because he is workoholic, when he returns, he will return stronger than ever. He won't need time to lose weight or anything, I can see him get into game shape in 3 games maximum (last season proved it). And because he is not egoholic, he won't force anything just to prove he is till No.1 in the team. He plays to win. Only "W" matters for him, everybody knows.

    2. This team was doing very well when both Tmac and Yao were on the court. 14-6 is a great record if you ask me. I don't know why anybody would worry about it. Think about it, worst case senario: the team goes back to the 14-6 situation. That's 70% win, baby!

    3. This is a team that has great confidence in their coach. JVG did hell of a job to make everyone believe in his system, his D. We are No.1 in defence, people. What does defence take? It takes effort more than anything. And we are No.1 in effort. That says a lot about JVG and our players: the players will do anything JVG says and continue doing what he says even things are not working at certain moment. That makes this team's adjustment to Yao's return a lot easier. I truly believe the whole team will adjust in less than 5 games.

I agree with everything you said, except for the the fact that Yao and Tmac didn't play well together. In 04-05 Yao was not nearly as great or as confident as he is now. Now he's dominant.

I thought their chemsitry was great back in 04-05. They didn't lose due to lack of chemsitry. Yao simply wasn't as great back then plus the fact that our role players got abused by Dallas, plus the fact that Dallas was a great team that went to the Finals the next year, plus the fact that we got some bad calls and bounces in that series that tilted it in their favor, plus the fact that Ryan Bowen was our starter.

I'm in the "Yao off the bench" camp. Yao, Hayes, Head & Bonzi is the scariest 2nd team in the NBA.

As far as that 1st round playoff series with Dallas goes, we now have a better Yao & TMac plus JHo who is playing better now than he did that season. Just hope we can stay thatway. I 'cited!

i don't think we have a better t-mac than the dallas series, he was SUPERB. we certainly have a better yao because he would have a good game, then an average game, then good game, then average. very up and down that series.

My main concern with Yao is ball-handling. He was turning over the ball more than past seasons, but that could be from the extra touches he was receiving. Also, stamina in the fourth quarter might lead to missed shots and turnovers, especially in the beginning. That is why I believe that T-Mac must not defer to Yao as much and keep the approach he has now. I think we will be at our best when both our superstars are scoring around 25 ppg.

i agree that yao is/was dominating earlier this season, but it also happened to be at a time when tmac was either struggling or not even playing. i do think they can coexist and dominate at the same time, but we really haven't seen it yet, and that concerns me.

as for the 04-05 playoffs: we did play well for 6 games. but game 7? how can you NOT call a 40 pt loss a complete and utter demolishing? it still makes me sick just thinking about it.

I have to say, I am somewhat worried about these insider reports/interviews where Yao expresses 'fear' or 'doubt' about his role with the team.

Stop being so hard on yourself Yao, there is NO DOUBT this team is better when you're on the floor...don't let any self-doubt creep in, we need that confidence/swagger you had before you got injured when you get back, this team absolutely counts on it in the playoffs.

The MacMing Dynasty shall be fulfilled...

You don't need to wait till Yao returns, just scan through this thread and you will see a few posts along the line of "we are better without Yao".

Exactly and these were probably the same people who were saying to trade tmac in november. Some fans are fickle.

Fickle? I don't think that is quite the word for it. If adding the league's best center back into the line up is a detraction... then who else can we add that can better our team?

This isn't a bad thought, but Yao will only make this team better...I promise you...

I see visions of sugar plums and christmas toys dancing in my head as Juwan sets a pick out high and roles to the top of the free throw line for his automatic jumper.

Then I see the defense adjust and role a big to cover Juwan, which leaves Yao wide open to catch dunk after dunk after dunk. We have a lights out lineup with the following.

    Tracy
Luther (Rafer can only stay in if he's hitting the 2/3 or dishing to Yao)
    Battier
    Juwan
    Yao

    That's a 110 ppg per night.

I think once Yao Ming returns than its going to take the rockets a couple of games to get used to things again. I still think that T-Mac should be our Number one scoring option and not Yao Ming. Hopefully we will finally be able to beat Phoenix when Yao returns. Phoenix is really the one team that we can't beat right now.

Weren't people complaining early in the season that T-Mac was taking too many outside shots and didn't T-Mac himself say he was deferring to Yao then?

I think Yao is just looking for a reason to extend his vacation so he can play more Wii games. :D

As long as Tmac keeps playing like this after Yao's return then there will be very little adjustment.

And like everyone I can't wait to see old skool tmac and dominant Yao play together for the first time!! If this occurs and goes on then no media will pay much attention to mavs and suns, all eye balls will be watching Rockets like thers's no tomorrow!!!!

WOW !!! Close to 80 posts/responses in less than 10 hours after I created this thread......... :D

Looks like I made the right decision to put this in a completely new thread away from the Dedicated Thread of Yao Ming's Rehabilitation, and I got repaid for my 60-minute translation effort, as I got to learn more about basketball from you all.

    Should this thread be 5-starred ?? :p

Alston will have to take less shots and pass the ball to open players or players calling for the ball. Alston amd McGrady can make the transition easy if they so desire. Whe Yao Ming is resting the team can still play in its uptempo rythem.

Stats shows Rocket is better off with at least one of their Super-star on court. If we play T-mac and Yao for 36 mins, then

    Team Yao 10 mins
    Team Tmac 10 mins
    Team Both 26 mins
    Team None 2 mins

Go to 82games check our 5-man unit performance yourself, the classic

Alston-Tmac-Shane-Hayes-Yao unit still the best, among whole NBA.
