Those stats show that Ewing was not exactly a great Post season player.

So far, Yao has better stats. He averaged like 25/10 against Utah, and you guys are complaining that he did poorly.

Now, you guys really believe that Patrick Ewing who was 6'10 can beat Yao Ming one on one?

Who has a better low post game? YAO.
Who has better shooting skills? YAO.

I'll take Yao over Pat Ewing over a 1 on 1 contest.

    Pat Ewing's Playoffs FG % 46%. Points scored? 20.2.

    Yao: FG% 51%, Points scored: 21.1.

    These are averages.

Now, this past season, Yao BROKE HIS LEG. And he still averaged 25/10.

    A healthy Yao > Ewing.

Well, Pat Ewing is on the PER list but lower than Yao. And he's not even in top 100 in True FG %.

    #46 in Career PER
    46 Patrick Ewing 21.01

so are u saying tmac is #13 of all time?

cmon now. just stop. yao RIGHT NOW is nowhere near the level of patrick even in his 5th yr in terms of all-around basketball. u need to watch some 90s basketball. those were the days. dream, patrick, MJ, scottie, drexler, barkley, malone, stockton...

yao fan, stop bringing up the stats.

ewing is the UNDISPUTED #1 option for the knicks. yao is not for this team.

so if we bring up stats, was tony parker the most dominating player in the finals?

Hate to tell you this but both Yao and T-Mac are better offensive players than Patrick Ewing. If you know anything about Pat Ewing, he was mainly a defensive player from Georgetown. That was what he was known for. His defense, and rebounding.

Even in the NBA, he was not a great offensive player. He had pretty good #s because he was the #1, but Yao offensively is better, no question. T-Mac and Yao were both better than Pat Ewing.

Who was #2 for the NY Knicks? I think it was John Starks. Come on. That NY Knicks team was not a talented offensive team. They relied on tough defense.

Right now, pick among the three players: T-Mac, Yao, or Ewing. Which one do you pick to build your team around?

oh my god. a guy that avg 28.6 ppg in a big-men laden era is "just good"???

so jordan avg 30+ b/c he is the #1 option only. kobe avg 32-33 b/c he's #1. they're not that good???

u have got to be kidding me. ewing avg those pts during the reg. season on 50% shooting too, like yao.

and like u said, his defense and rebounding FAR surpass yao.

right now, ewing has a better career than BOTH tmac and yao. tmac if he advances in the playoffs will obviously be regarded better than ewing. tmac will eventually put together 8-9 yrs of basically 25, 5, 5, which is extremely tough.

yao has to put together 7-8 more yrs of 25/10 + to be on ewing's level. so basically yao has to do this until he's 32-33. and then get better on defense too.

its fine that u think yao can be one of the best. but please respect one of the better players to ever play this game. like it or not, ewing is one of the top 50 players of all time. that's elite company.

tmac if he retires right now is prollie one of the top 75 only b/c he has not won. if he does win, he'll be ranked higher.

but yao still has A LONG way to go.

offensively who's the best at their best- easily tmac.
    defensively, it's patrick.

yao is not neither the best in any end b/t those 3.

again, if yao can put together 25/10 seasons for 7-8 more yrs, he'll be regarded a lot higher. but u can't predict what can happen 7-8 more yrs. plus yao has to play 70+ games in each of those seasons too/

Um. You do realize that two of the years where Ewing had his lowest postseason scoring averages (98 and 99) he had come back from a supposed career ending wrist injury for the former and tore his already damaged ACL for the latter? Oh and he has only played about 100 more playoff games than Yao so far. I think that's a more significant number than Yao's SLIGHTLY (by a point?) higher scoring average over only 20 games.

Just saying. The man was a warrior.

Oh and mentioning his weak supporting cast only makes the man greater; he made the Finals in a maddeningly tough East, took the Rockets to 7 (Knicks scored more in the series in case you forget) in a series where he set an NBA record for blocked shots, and played Jordan tougher than anyone throughout the 90s.

If Yao comes close to supplanting Ewing in terms of greatness and competitive spirit I will be absolutely jumping for joy.

Look, Yao's careeer PER #s are better than Ewing's. Yao's Playoff #s are better than Ewing's. Yao plays in an era of zone defenses. Back then, you couldn't play zone, nor could you double. If Ewing was a contemporary of Yao today, Yao would have no problems against Ewing. Yao's 7'6. Ewing is 6'10.

    Use your common sense.

I agree that Pat Ewing had a great career although he never won a championship. But those are just statistics. Skill-wise, Ewing was no Hakeem ok? Even Hakeem is amazed at Yao's offensive skills and size. Do you think Hakeem thought that of Ewing?

Ewing is a Hall of fame player. but in my opinon, he would not match up with against Yao Ming.

Whether or not Yao will have the longevity to also produce hall of fame #'s is a question mark, but Yao certainly is headed to the Hall of fame. If he keeps up, he will also produce the #s.
