Just like how people shouldn't over-react to a bad game, people shouldn't over-react to one good game. It's hard to say Yao is back to his old self until to does better against some better competition.

I saw the second half of the game last night, or early this morning, and I'll say that it looked like the Chinese team was making more of an effort to include Yao in the offense and playing off of him.

To anyone who wants to see the game, it's on the Olympics official website. It's great. Good quality, and you can cut to any part of the game with very little buffering. But there is no commentary.

next game, CHN VS GEM would be a good way to determine what % Yao is at right now.

Yeah, should be a good game. If CHINA makes an effort to revolve the offense around Yao, like against Angola, and he doesn't get doubled every time he gets the ball, Yao will get his points, but I don't think he's been doing so swell on defense. That's a good sign that he is still a step slow.

In the game, I hope we get another "you can't 'effin stop me moment" against Kaman, but only in Chinese. That would be great.

Yes, clearly Yao went from 60% to 100% in the course of one day, and it just happened to be against Angola. Makes perfect sense.

He looked good and I noticed he was hitting his turn around jumper even when he got bumped... that right there is an improvement from what I saw in the two previous games.

Sorry but you are dead wrong, it was under JVG that Yao tried to play MR. Everything insted of developing a dominent position with the team.
Yao has had to put up with the Steve Franchise Dribble mania Era, then the JVG era , during wich times he hadn't had the chance to become the dominent go to guy- I have watched every game! It's about time that Yao Ming started demanding the ball p

It's just one game. This is typical when one is at his 70%: going up and down.
And remember, if China beat Germany, Yao will have one more game to play. That is, one more chance to get injured, especially when one need to face strong opponents such as Argentina.

Yetti, I am gonna slightly disagree.

I thought JVG (and Patrick Ewing) was the biggest reason, Yao's game changed. At the first of his career, you could say he could turn out to be weaker version of Aryvadis Sabonis or glorified Rik Smits....Big Z a bit. Sort of be a complementary big man who was borderline all-star. Complement a star wing player. Then, I think T-Mac got hurt, or was out. Yao started to develop through JVG's dump it in post offense and make him take control over the paint. If he would've stayed healthy could have had one or two MVPs by now. At one point in the season, he was averaging over 26 ppg and nearly 11 rebs....near unstoppable.

It happened again last year in way, when Adelman wanted use him in the high post...which may hurt us a bit. Finally, he decided to move him back under the basket and we started to win alot games again.

I think if Yao wouldn't have had coach, like JVG or Larry Brown, who loves that slow down East Coast style. He would've been stuck at barely 20 ppg. I think playing that style of ball actually helped him become a better and even more aggressive player, while he matured as basket baller.

This is not true at all.

" from what I read somewhere, China is the type of country that looks down on players scoring over 25 points a game. They take it as a sign that the player is trying to out shine his teammates."

Woah, another Van Gundy flash fire starts on Clutchfans! All of the Rockets coaches have been good for Yao's development, but the main thing is Yao's work ethic and commitment to getting better. I'm glad Yao is making progress in his play and look forward to him dusting all of the haters off his shoulder as he hoists the Larry O' Brien trophy next June.

Who cares, it's impressive because he isn't healthy.

    Oh, man, seriously, you're bull****ting!
As a Chinese basketball fan, I can tell you we don't have any problem at all with any player on the team getting 90 points in one game!
You know what, that's why Kobe is so popular in China too.

China will play Germany and Greece. If Yao and his teamates win either game, they will definitely advance to the knockout round.

No, Angola isn't that bad. They lost to USA by some 20 points. For comparison, China lost to USA by 31 points.
