dude, you wait 2 years to make your first post and you start with a monster size 7? after two years of lurking you should know better than that.

i dont agree with your comparison. rafer gave little else when he was having an off night from the field (every night). ron plays great defense, rebounds, etc...

why does he get more shots than yao? we've been having this discussion a lot. don't look at how many times yao shoots. look at how many touches he gets. yao gets the ball more than anyone on our team. if he doesn't take as many shots as you would like, blame him for not being more selfish.

yao gets trapped, doubled, zoned, fronted, all things to deny him the ball, or deny him the shot. ron is being asked to do too much by picking up all of the perimeter scoring duties, but he's the best we've got out there. so we have to live with it until tmac is traded for another perimeter scorer.

If you think about it, 1 turnover could amount to a different of 4-6 points per game.. if you get a turnover, you lose the opportunity to score so theres 2-3 points. And then the opponent could easily take it back and score which is another 2-3 points.

Cutting Yao and our PG's turnovers by 3-5 when playoff comes around can mean a win or a loss

There were some near miss T/O's last night. I remember the entry pass that he almost lost out of bounds but he threw it off some Magic player at the last second. Nice heady play by Yao but if I remember correctly that was an easy entry pass thrown to him and it was just Butterfingers Ming as usual.

But clearly the Rockets are trying new things to get Yao the ball. People have been calling for them to make that lob pass more often, and that's what they did yesterday. I think against Portland, Battier successfully lobbed it into Yao over a defender, and he managed to catch it and draw a foul without turning it over. Against Orlando, we were much less successful with it. If that's something we can do more consistently, though, it will open things up a ton for him.

    Agreed.

Some passes were definitely catchable, and Yao deserves some 'credit' for some of those turnovers.

But I'm glad we're working on new options on the offense. Better to make TO's now than in the playoffs. If we can make better passes and Yao can make better catches, he will be lethal.

Although it was a very BIG post, a lot of it is true. Many times Ron plays like he is playing in a contract year instead of playing like he wants the team to win. But you really can't question his true motives because he still has always been a true warrior.

Still, I wouldn't mind if he shot 6 for 21 if he wasn't taken such bad shots sometimes. He is a star, so he can have games like that while a non star can't. But not even a star should shoot 6 for 21 and take 10 terrible shots doing so. Just take good shots and I don't care how many Ron takes. He can get hot anytime and win the entire game for us.

I don't know about canada, but in america, we use regular size font...

Also, Yao has never really been able to catch passes up high on the move because of his lateral movement ability....hence the effectiveness of fronting. There's no margin for error for a guard. Last night, the pass in question could have been better, but there's only so much a gaurd can do. If anything, i fault the gaurd for throwing a low percentage pass instead of looking for another anger.

While what you said is true, I would still rather that when Yao is fronted that he seal his man, rotate and repost on the opposite side of the goal. Let the guards and wings swing it fast enough to get it to him before the other team can re-front him again on the other side.

Yao just physically is not suited well for long term success with the lob pass. NBA players are just too much quicker than he is for that when the other team is using help defense.

What's Yao going to do if he catches a lob pass anyways? Roll to the basket and ten seconds later he's at the cup? Let the defender catch up with him so Yao can instinctually back him down? I do like the doublepicks that they do sometimes to get Yao the ball.

And is just me or does Yao have difficulty posting up a lesser player at times that's not even fronting him? Yao is fighting with some lesser player trying to establish low post and is getting muscled out into the perimeter area. Maybe I'm just magnifying the isolated instances I've seen this.

Ron Artest doesn't take a lot of shots because he's a ball hog. Ron Artest takes a lot of shots because he seriously believes it is the best chance for the team to win. If the ball can't go to Yao, he has no problem jacking it up because he truly believes it will go in 100% of the time. If Yao sets a pick, it's Ron Artest's cue to shoot it.

Not that he's correct about any of it, but at least his intentions are pure. He's not as bad as Iverson, for example.

Yes! Even if Yao gets it sometimes, the lob is a very, very high risk pass with Yao. Swing the ball around to the weakside and post there, or give it to the PF at the top of the key and wait for yao to duck into the middle.

A square peg's never gonna fit in a round hole.

Yes! Exactly..why can't the team and RA understand and adopt this simple philosophy?

Shortfuse3...has your left brain made peace with your right brain so you can give us a more intelligent analysis of Yao's 'Zero Turnover Phenomenon' last night?
