Of course you can have non-super stars on your team, the problem is there is a salary cap. If Yao is going to be paid super star money with his next contract, then the team needs super star production. Otherwise the Rockets won't have the money to sign a true super star. As far as getting the ball down low, Yao shares alot of the blame there. He doesn't do a good job sealing defenders off, he is oblivious to help defenders coming from the blind side, and he is easily stripped or pressured into turn overs from the double team. This doesn't mean the Rocket's shouldn't resign Yao, or that he isn't a top tier all star. Nor does it really mean Yao is not clutch when he does get the ball in scoring position. It just means that it is hard to focus your entire offense around a player that can be consistently denied effective touches when you need them most.
So what if I mispelled his name by adding a "l". Big f**ing deal. Now you show me if you know any better than how to spell Pau.
Oh,now many Yao haters are bashing Yao when we lose a game............. LA is an elite team,Rox are not. It seems like that many fans take our record for granted and they think we can win more games if Yao isnt here....... It's ridiculous that there is someone want to trade Yao foe Dampier.. Oh,my gosh.I hope he is just a Dallas fan,not a Rox fan....
for those of you who think that Yao is unclutch this is a direct quote from Pau Gasol, It's hard to be clutch when refs allow this type of treatment, think about it! PAU GASOL (on defending Yao) “I tried to mix it up with him and play him aggressively. I had to get into his body and push him as hard as I could.. It was hard work but it paid off. The refs allowed a lot of contact and there were not a lot of fouls called.”
Not only that, how many players can be clutch when defense is hell bent on stopping you, by doubling, trapping, etc? Get the ball out of your hands. I don't mean just centers, I mean including parameter players. And I don't pretend Yao Ming has a good game. He had a bad game, Lakers baseline double gave him fits.
I'm not a Yao hater. But when you're paying max dollars to a guy who can't seal off his defender well enough to take an entry pass, you have a big problem. Yao can absolutely positively be a huge part of a championship team. What he can't be is "the man" on an elite team. If his salary keeps you from finding "the man", then you need to explore your options. Unless you're satisfied with merely being a "good team." This is not a championship team. They need tweaking. And they're missing the hardest part to acquire.
You turned a blind eye to this match. It's not Yao's fault. Everyone in the match should be blame. This game is for five person, not for only one. Although I'm a Chinese, I have to say, Yao and Artest should take full responsibilities for this match. Go Rocket! Show us your determination! Show us your desire for the CHAMPION.
great players find a way. all great players get doubled. all great players face defenses trying to deny them the ball.
wait a second...you honestly believe Yao is the only player in the league facing double teams?? that he's the only player in the league that teams scheme for?
Do you know what shane said after game? dummy "We had such a poor night shooting from beyond the arc that it really fed into the way they were playing Yao, and we couldn’t get Yao going." ---------shane If you want to have a blame list for this tough loss, then yao should be at far behind the major reason we lost this one. I would put the blame on our coach as NO.1 on that list. He did not adapt to game instantly and pull ron back as he was outta his mind. Of course, yao got butterfinger and could not secure the rebounds as well as boxed this man out blah blah blah. however, i will still put blame on the coach.
you may be right, IF yao was in perfect position EVERY time he is in the post. every big man should be pissed off if he seals off his man properly and doesn't get the ball or doesn't get the ball thrown right at him. but last night was a perfect example of yao's problems, not the freakin' PG. most of the passes were on point right at yao's stomach or chest, and he simply didn't seal off pau and pau just goes to the side and reaches and knock it loose before yao can hold onto the ball. that's yao's responsibility. bill and clyde said so too and you know they don't like to fault the big guy for anything. and yes i've played ton of basketball. but yes, the conditions have to be perfect for us to get yao the ball and get him the right spacing. it's so damn tough.
