DD, As much as I respect your post, it is STUPID and it is OLD. It is old because a lot of people talked about moving yao to the high post long time ago. I remember Jeff said JVG wanted Yao dominant inside before he moved him out. Personally I like Kings offense and Yao should shine there(not a trade idea), but its JVGs call. It is stupid because one time you blame the guards dribbli too much and another time you blame yao getting the ball too much. Yes, he is not ready. Yes, he is not agressive sometimes. Every body has his own shortcomings. go and watch the games how many times you see yao was open and the guards just ignored him. Sure, ask yao beat everybody downlow before he gets the ball. How about give him the ball every time he is open. I guess that will be too easy to do since we all like finish in a hard way. And shooting the 14 feet jumper is much easier for Yao than the guards. He might not be ready. How about let the guards know he will be (if not is) the MAN? Let the guard defer to him and look for him every time. SF has the ball and I dont think he will ever let yao shine too much. ok, he should get all the offensive RB. yeah, you are right. That is the way to get the ball off your teammates. Can I call myself a YOF before being entitled by somebody?
DD: You are right about Yao not being a dominant force in the paint right now. But do you really think a high-post passing center would worth a No.1 overall draft pick? Walton was the best in this category but he's agile and fast, drove to the hoop alot. Yao simply doesn't have and will never have those weapons. If you put him at high-post, he's not even going be as good as an old Davic. For a high posting passing center to be effecive, the other 4 players on court should know how to move without the ball. I don't see SF, Cat, Cato and MoT are good at this. IMHO, no matter how bad Yao looks right now (actually not that bad), you have to give him 1-2 years, hoping he could develop into a dominant lost post scorer. Anyway, there's nothing to lose if he failed.
I see a lot of points being made in this thread and I see a few are recurring over and over and I think if we could improve those things this team will look much better - Guards take to much time to get the ball over the half court - Guards don't make timely passes. Yao spends to much time fighting for position and then the guards just dribble around and waste his effort. - Even though SF is an execellent ISO player, this is the NBA and not street play - The team needs to make clear and remove the franchise title from SF. While he thinks he is the leader of this team, his ego won't let him play a team concept. -Yao needs to be more selfish and shoot more. I hate this because most of the time he passes to the open guy, but unfortunately the other players are not hitting the open shot.
Now, let's use stats appropriately. 2003-04 (Assists per TO): Nash : 2.56 Steve: 1.49 Career (Assists per TO): Nash : 2.70 Steve: 1.71 If you average 10A/G but 10TO/G, you suck.
How can a 7'6 man that has been here less than 2 years be blamed for the Rockets' problems when they were already playing lottery ball before he got there? Well, at least it's good to see that every player on the Rox can be hated equally.
hitman i agree ya'll yao hatas need to shut it and watch the rest of the games for a total yao ming evaluation. So far the main problem is the showboating. For once get back to the basis dang it!
I think Yao needs to play in the high post and shoot jumpers against stronger and bigger guys and Francis can pass to him and Cato in the low post. But Yao also needs to get in the paint against players who he can "dominate" like he did with the Pistons. He needs to mixup his game or otherwise he will continue to be too predictable. When Mo is in the game he should pass to Yao in the paint and shoot his midrange jumper because his shot can be honored unlike Cato.
wait a minute, yao wasnt here a year ago and would u know it we didnt make the playoffs SO how is he the damn problem? IT IS THE SO CALLED FRANCHISE!
I am not saying take Yao out of the paint entirely, just move him around some, and diversify the offense. Especially when Yao is up against a stronger center who is pushing him around. Play to your strengths. I still think our guards dribble too much, but watch the Dallas offense, and see how Nash creates....OFF THE DRIBBLE.... This is exactly what SF and Cat need to do... Yao needs to make himself a bigger target, and quit letting LESSER players push him around. Yao is softer than a babies A$$ and the whole league knows it. Yao needs to toughen up and pull his undies out of his vagina and start playing like a man. DD
i agree yao needs to toughen up a bit, but when he does get good positionn he nevers gets the ball. I blame steve for this.
The Rockets suck...that is all. If you guys are unhappy about YM, lets trade him >_<. I rather keep him and trade SF.
Yao,main problem!!??? just look at the team, the main problem is no pass! we lost a game again, what a ugly game! yao scores 12 by 3/4,8 reb ,thats the problem!
In the suns game, Yao was in foul trouble. Still, SF didn't show his penetration game. Maybe he already lost it. Let's bench Yao several gams and let SF pick up his game.
While dback816 can no longer read my post, I want to make this clear: READ THE ANNOUNCEMENT. If you are one of these types of posters.... you have no place here, and your days are officially numbered.
sure, yao has a problem getting inside position, but you can blame all on him because we have the worst guards in the league when it comes to passing the ball. SF and mobley are terrible. they never pass the ball to yao when he's cutting in the paint. our guards definately need to watch some old utah's games with dirty stockton passing to dirty malone.
A double-teamed Yao is useless. He has to find a way to beat the double team. If he can do it, Rockets will be his team. If he can't, he's just a above average center.
I agree that Yao needs to be used differently, Scot Pollard was abusing Yao in the post. He's always falling down or fumbling the ball when he's guarded by a stronger center down low. I'd much rather see Yao play in the high post more where he can knock down the 14 footer or make a pass to a cutting Mobley or Francis. JVG really has some work to do.
