The good: Made big shots. Made big FTs. Got lots of boards. The bad: He's one of the big reasons teams kill us in the 4th. He can't defend the PnR. He's just too slow. Also, the pick and pop kills us when the "popper" comes out to the three point line (as in GS). Also, he had 7 horrible turnovers.
Are you CERTAIN that Yao's more likely to be unclutch at the end of games vs. being clutch? From the Rockets games I've watched in recent years, I find Yao somewhat in the middle. He has games where he's money down the stretch. While other times force feeding him the ball caused lots of TOs. So it's a mixed bag. That said, this thread is obviously a joke because most "Yao is unclutch" threads are based on the previous game, rather than his entire body of work.
Yao is unclutch, he just naturally dominates and never keeps the score close. All joking aside I agree. Houston's down by 1, 10 sec's on the clock, who would you give the ball to?
The probelm is they always try to get Yao the ball at the high post. Which results in: 1) A low percentage fadeaway attempt over a smaller defender. Not a shot you want your center to take. 2)Turnover. When he dribbles the ball another defender runs from behind and steals it from him. Sometimes the ball just pops out of his hand for no reason. 3) Power bump his defender which usually results in a offense foul or travel. I think Yao needs guards that can penetrate and dish it to him so he would be in a better position to score.
Actually Yao's fadeaway jumpsers are quite money these days. It's the hook shots and mid range jumpers are killing him. I don't know what happened with his hook shots.
Funny thing is if you watch what teams do to Duncan it's identical to how they play Yao. I've seen TD have turnovers in crucial times also. The one thing that bothers me is the lack of communication by our players. I watched Luthers man come from behind Yao and no body yelled or warned Yao where the double was coming from.
It's too bad we have to take the good with the bad. In Yao's case, on most nights, the good overweighs the bad by a good margin. Novak on the other hand...
Yao had a very good rest at the beginning of 4th quarter. That is the main reason. Yao hates to running back and forth without any result, because it will cost him too much energy, and after that he will easily get tied and be unclutch. So make Yao play enough but not excessively is very very important.
Agreed. Yao is unclutch because his pay is far below $20M. A clutch player should be paid at least $20M.
This is the reason why I hate coming into the GARM. Idiots like el_locotee think they did something when Yao plays well. So you get to be a smartass because Yao scored 36 points? Start a new thread with the same name in your broken English and you've accomplished something? I want Yao to do well. I want Tracy to do well. I want the Rockets to do well. But, I cannot stand it how these YOFs or any kind of OFs have some kind of r****ded argument about a player and keep on saying it until that person has an on-night, then all the sudden they are right. Yao played a great game, but you are still r****ded. el_locotee is an idiot.
Yao was clutch last night, especially after GS went up by 1 with a 3. We usually fold like church chairs after a back breaking shot by the other team. I have to hold down my expectations for Yao because I expect him to get every rebound and forgot he was coming off the flu like symptoms. What were the numbers 36 jordans and 19 rodmans.
