I mean really. . .. HOW CAN THE GREAT YAO BE TO BLAME!!! Rocket River . . . NEXT UP . . .Moochie dribbled so much because his teammates didn't move enough . . or come and take the ball . . MOOCHIE WAS WRONGED!
He certainly isn't and he isnt Shaq either! He is the one and only Yao Ming, very special with his own path to greatness.
Ming shows flashes of greatness. Some of his moves and shots are stunning. He is really developing a "wicked" hook shot. But inconsistency is the problem, which is not his problem alone. It will take a different set of guards, and Ming in peak physical condition and getting up for every game before we see many 30-15-5 nights in a row, and I think he is fully capable of that. And I say again, consistent outside shooting will made Ming a Monster. When the Rockets were raining threes and Hakeem was dominating inside, they were virtually unbeatable. Ming may not be Hakeem, but the same pattern can work with him.
i just wanted to say that yao is definitely over the hump, the thread starter said exactly what i'd been thinking these recent games. hard to see yao not averaging 20+ points a game the rest of the way.
Yao will average at least 19 points and 9 boards the rest of the way. I doubt he'll ever average double figure boards in his career.
Yao's dominating with single coverage all depends on him. But against double teaming, he needs his teammates to help him out a bit...like when to pass, how to pass and pass with consistency and timing.
Uh... think before you post stuff like this. The road is littered with Tom Tolberts who've said, "I doubt he'll ever..." If Yao doesn't run off 8-10 seasons of 10+ boards starting next year, his career will be a disappointment.
If Yao can't get the ball from his teammates, he needs to go get it himself! There are plenty of rebounds that he should be able to secure. His recent offensive success is great, but a guy as physically imposing as Yao Ming should not be averaging 7 boards per game over his last 20 or so games.
Get real! No one is supposed to get shots from offensive rebounds. When his teammates failed to pass him the rock, he should just kick some ass and demand the damn ball. Even if he get more than 10 boards per game, most of them will be defensive boards. For ever 3 def boards, he will be lucky if there are 1 more offensive boards. Stop using this stupid arguement now.
Yao boxes out, and his teammates collect rebounds. We are one of the better rebounding team in NBA. Now, if Cato or MoT does the boxing out job, Yao will get more rebounds. But it is not in Cato or MoT's insticnt. After all, it doesn't matter who collected the rebounds, Yao, Cato, MoT or SF.
This really make sense. For those complaining about Yao's rebounds, watch the game and study the game plan first! Without Yao in the paint, Rockets will never be #1 in opponent FG% in the league , which would have been under 40% If we can play better perimeter defence.
True, but can't you see signs of greatness from Ming? I mean he simply can not be guarded and if this team ever does center their offense around Yao, the sky's the limit. Consistency will come with time. He's all ready playing more consistent over the past month or two. Like Hakeem, Yao could become the go to guy down the strecth when you need a basket and the guy seems capable of delivering in that scenario.
What the hell are you talking about? No one is supposed to get shots from offensive rebounds? Moses Malone would disagree. More rebounds means possessions which means more shot opportunities. Of course he should demand the ball when he doesn't get it! You say he should kick some ass and demand the ball, you mean his teammates asses? Why not kick the opponent's ass? He needs to secure those balls that he can get a hand on, the ones he goes after with one hand and tips into the air. He's averaging 7.4 rebounds over the last 10 games. This is about getting Yao more shots, since he is our best offensive weapon. He can control his rebounding, he can't control the guards. He shouldn't just demand the ball, he should go get it, and snaring a rebound is the best way. The only person here using a stupid argument is you. Stop being such an ass.
I love the way he blocks out his man and lets teammates get rebounds. That's something too infrequent in today's NBA. I watch the games, I live in Houston where almost every single game is aired on TV. What concerns me is the downward trend in his rebounding. The last 10 games, he's scoring more, but he's only averaging 7.4 boards over that span. The Rockets have something like a 78 percent win percentage when Yao scores 20 and grabs 10 boards. I want him to secure those balls that he's been going after with one hand, and tipping up into the air. For those of you defending Yao's rebounding, do you want him to be a good player, or a great player? If he has a weakness, it is his rebounding.
For Yao to rebound more, he has to go after the boards and let someone else block out. Yao is such a great outlet-passer after he rebounds that it makes sense to let JJ and Cato do the blocking out so that Yao can snatch them. Another side note, the guards have got to stop "battling" YAO for rebounds!!! Sometimes I wonder what in the world they are thinking Let your 7-6 get the board!
opponents are taking more and more jumpers and these are likely to be long rebounds. The key to get these rebounds is quick reaction, not necessarily length. It will be best if everyone boxes out his man so no matter where the ball goes, you have a good chance getting it. ball bounces all directions, and everyone will get his rebound numbers. But in this league, personal statistics means $$$, they want more rebounds, even it means taking some away from their teammates. Yao is really rare out there, he doesn't care his personal stats.
I gotta agree with Canoner on this one, I watched the game last night and I think I saw like 2 or 3 drives to the basket by the TWolves, most of their baskets came from jumpshots and 3's. Though I think Yao should still be averaging more rebounds, it's kinda hard for a big man to get the ball when #1 the other team shoots an ungodly 60% or something like that, and #2 they do it from long or mid range.
Olowokandi used to be a tough match up to Yao last season, as well as clippers to rockets. From the stats you can found yao's tremendous improvement this season.
