So does this mean he will not stick around for the ROY award presentation?

yuck, does that mean that the toronto players have a high chance of getting it too? what if they get lebron and he refuses? maybe yao should just go to tibet and get some of that high altitude training and boost up his stamina. In any case, judging by the numbers, China is just being precautionary, it doesnt look like the cases are jumping exponentially like it should if it was a highly contagious disease in China's dense population. we all hope it ends soon (well except some of you still in the cold war, anti-chinese people)

Damn, this is getting serious. Just had a chat with friends in Shang Hai. They all say it's too dangerous to go there now.

Do not belive what paper says.

WHO upgraded the warning on traveling to China.

I sincerly hope Yao will stay in USA for two more month. Screw Asian games.

What if it breaks out into a major epidemic? It does have the potential to do so in China and China is quarantined and Yao Ming cant return for next season!

Get the word out to Yao! Maybe Yang Yi can do an article for tomorrow's paper and just Fax it over to Yao's people tonight before he heads to the airport!

"He was scheduled to leave Houston on Wednesday on his way to San Francisco and will return home to Shanghai over the weekend. "

I hope Yao does not contact SARS. Though some experts like one I saw on CNN Wednesday morning wants us to believe that SARS is not that dangerous (just a respiratory infect as he effortlessly put it), I like to defer. No one has been able to contain and defeat it yet. School in some parts of China has been closed according to CNN for at least 2 weeks. Toronto travel plans have been "wink-wink" discouraged.

If this problem does not get resolved with the next month or two, it could cause a lot of economic setbacks for the world in general. But that is trivial compared to the lives it could consume along the way. I am worried.

There is even a possibility that Yao will not let back to the US on time if this disease is not contained and defeated before October. What will his team mates do? Psychologically they could be affected (remember the Karl Mallone-Tragic Johnson AIDS debacle?).

Oh well my prayers are with the world because it is indeed a global problem. Only God Almighty can save us - because I believe this SARS is only a series of news of War and disease outbreaks we will be hearing from hear on out. It is in the Holy bible.

Yao's parents are in Houston, right?
Get Yao's girlfriend over here ASAP and the big guy will lose some of his urge to travel. This is REALLY SERIOUS stuff and it's terrible that the Chinese government or members of it, to be fair, tried to cover this up. What were they thinking?

Yao should stay in the United States.
I hope that China and the rest of the world can contain/figure out how to treat this frightening outbreak. There hasn't been a flu-like illness based on the virus of the common cold before, at least as far as we know. That's what I've been reading.
