It says texans for rick perry at the end.

What is the thing about the about the debt.

I think they are trying to inspire fear and xenophobia has been an effective tool for a while.

Looks like the sheer amount of guesswork the White-Yao image generates would render its implication random anyway.

Perhaps an easier job for Bill White is to use the picture of Perry-Yao to send a message that the Gov. is selling Texas out to Red Commie China.

Sadly all this probably proves is that many voters dont really know what cap and trade is. It's about emissions but maybe random pollers think "cap and trade" says something about unfair trade? China doesn't even have cap and trade credits

All political commercials get tuned via focus groups... group A gets shown one ad with that picture of Yao Ming and group B gets shown another ad without it. Then they fill out a questionnaire with stuff like "I agree that Bill White supports unfair trade with other nations" "Bill White doesn't put Houston first" etc etc.

Honestly it could be as simple as the word "TRADE" + Chinese person. It doesn't need to make sense merely connect with ppl who have a problem with China to begin with. Everyone else will kind of go "huh?" to that Yao part then move on.

it doesn't have to be specific nor does it even have to make sense

it could be as simple as they tested 50 different pictures and adding Yao's picture to the commercial reduces White's "favorable" among Texas voters by X%

it's a political ad, not a logic test. Yao + cap and trade (or even China + cap and trade) makes no sense but some high powered firm got paid a lot of money to choose each and every one of those pictures

Mayor Annise Parker knows a little bit about the debt that Houston has.

They didn't close it and Mayor Annise Parker has been working on it. To her credit she has been making some tough decisions while not raising taxes.

Rick Perry is a piece of ****.

But even beyond that, for all his anti-gay campaigning - word has been going around for years that he has a thing for dude butt.

    Whoa... politics with the players.

Wait, pardon me, but what does Yao Ming know about Houston politics? I'm not saying he knows nothing, I'm just saying he's no expert. But I guess an expert opinion is not quite as important as a big name that everyone can "trust"

It's all wonky... let him stick to basketball and we'll ask him for advice about that

    P.S.: Kobe for President

I like how they end the ad with "too liberal for texas" but aside from saying he supported the healthcare bill, everything else they covered sounded like it could have been from the Bush administration.

I don't understand why they would include Yao in an attack ad. Wouldn't a picture with him be a positive thing? Everyone loves Yao. Even fans of other teams love him.

Yeah, I don't get that either. I would think even Texans from other parts of the state would have positive associations with Yao Ming. There might be some people who don't know who he is and will have a xenophobic reaction to seeing a Chinese guy. There might be some Spurs fans that are annoyed about Yao's strong play in some San Antonio games while maintaining a choir boy image as pristine as their beloved Duncan and Robinson. Besides that, though, who is going to react negatively?

I want to see that link that shows how the city of Houston is in more debt per capita than the entire State of California.

'cause everything I am seeing is showing Houston, and Texas for that matter, at the top of economic growth.

    Cali, on the other hand...
