The logic is the same not just for Boki, but for White, African, and Latino Americans as well...

All Whites should play for the Utah Jazz, cuz of the large White (and Mormon) population over there... Looks like Shawn Bradley has made a bad choice in playing for the Mavs... ;)

On the other hand, all African Americans should play for the Knicks or the Memphis Grizzlies due to the large Black population and/or Black concentration in these two cities...

Last but not least, all Latino players should join a Californian team... Heck, the Latinos are the majority over there! (Oh wait, Tim Duncan is from the Virgin Islands! That means he should play for Miami due to the sizeable population of Caribbean Latinos...)

If the Black, White, and Latino players are taken care of for these three cities, what about the other cities?

Toronto will have a two-man team of Steve Nash and Jamal Magaloire (sp?) -- Rick Fox does not count -- due to the overwhelming Canadian population... I don't know about the rest... it's time to bring in some farm animals I guess...

You know, I'm not even annoyed by the fact Golden State fans are all dreaming of Yao. Let's be honest here, all Golden State fans have is hope. They certainly don't have a decent basketball organization. I don't blame them at all for dreaming of a day when a player like Yao comes to Golden State through free agency but it isn't going to happen. I really can't think of a single reason for Yao to go there. (unless you consider the fact that there is a larger asian population a valid reason. i don't)

1a. Like said many times above me, it isn't as though Yao will be able to go out and hang in chinatown. The more Asians in the area the more attention he'll garner and he already attracts an insane amount of attention regardless of where he goes.
1b. Furthermore just because there are Asians in the Bay Area doesn't mean he has friends or family there. He may not have much family here but he does have friends here now and one would think the family that has moved here would be comfortable here by the time his contract expires.
    2. We have the financial edge. Nobody can give him more money than the Houston Rockets.
    3. We're the team that drafted him and we're rebuilding around him. Most people would agree that Yao will have a sense of obligation towards the Rockets.
    4. Tracy McGrady! Tracy McGrady! Tracy McGrady! It sure beats the hell out of Jason Richardson!
    5. Have the Warriors EVER been a contender for the title? In my lifetime there have been very few years in which they were even playoff contenders.
    6. If he does ever wish to leave the Rockets the only reason I can imagine for that would be that Team Yao wants him in a bigger market. New York, Los Angeles or possibly Boston are then the only teams worth considering leaving Houston for. At present only the Lakers have a team that would be a title contender with the addition of Yao. They are well over the cap and could only recieve Yao in a sign and trade. Good luck on that, Kupchak.

That all said, I wonder if any gay players try to sign with Golden State due to the large homosexual community there. Now that's something that would make some sense to me.
    :D

Here is a question for you guys: if Yao and T-Mac don't get along (I heard from sources that T-Mac is a jerk, take that for whatever it's worth), like what happened to Kobe/Shaq Webber/Peja, who's gonna get traded?

Why is this thread going still? The Rockets are going to be offering Shaq money to Yao. There is no way in hell we would let him go.

RR, I understand English and sign language better than Cantonese and I think I am pretty good at mandrian Chinese.

Cantonese and Mandarin use the same characters for writing and reading. Cantonese is Chinese. The difference are certain accents and colloquialisms, much like the way British English is different from American English.

Most people who speak Cantonese can also speak Mandarin.

Also, I live in the Bay Area... and the only place Cantonese speakers are more prevalent is in San Francisco's Chinatown. Outside of Chinatown, the majority speak Mandarin.

Man, if stuff like this was true, 90% of the NBA would be dying to play in Atlanta.

It's not like Yao can just go out and party down with a bunch of Chinese immigrants in Oakland. The guy's 7'6" and he's mobbed wherever he goes, be it California, Texas or Shanghai. It may be unfortunate, but the man simply can't have a public life resembling anything quiet or normal. Furthermore, why would he care about the Asian population of Oakland when he LIVES in CHINA?

Write me "mamadai" in Mandrian Chinese, and then tell me if they are read the same and written the same. Cantonese is not Chinese, no. Cantonese is merely one of tens of thoudand dialects in China.

Are you trying to tell me that Mandarin is the only real Chinese? Give me a break man.

Cantonese is Chinese the same way Mandarin is. Cantonese is also the most widespread Chinese dialect... and the second most spoken.

Mandarin is a Chinese dialect... Cantonese is a Chinese dialect. Fookensese... Shanghainese... Taisanese... are all Chinese.

I forgot to add... the reason why they aren't written the same is because Cantonese uses around 2000 less characters than Mandarin.

The 2800 or so Cantonese characters are the same as Mandarin.

This post is simply ridiculous. There IS only one language in Chinese. Written language is EXACTLY the same unless you are talking traditional vs. simplified script. I don't know how they come up with such a stupid name (mandarin). It is called Putonghua (standard tongue), which is based on the Beijing dialect. Cantonese is only one of many thousand dialects.

Mandarin is considered to be standard, which is why it is considered far more important. And no, Cantonese isn't the most wide spread dialect. There is no need to over-exaggerate its importance.

Back to the topic. I would say >70% of "Chinese" in America are from Guangdong province since in the 18th century Canton was the only open port in China and the poorest of the poor came here to build railroads. And most of them are >3rd or 4th generation. They have nothing in common with Yao. Hell, these people are genetically closer to the Vietmese than they are to Yao.

WHICH IS WHY YAO WON'T GIVE A CRAP HOW BIG THIS POPULATION IS.

Now let's just end this silly little thread which seems to pop up every month and let it be the end of it.

Actually, there isn't even a country in the world with a large Slovenian population. Slovenia itself doesn't have 2 million people.
