The NBA players get paid in millions. The average Chinese players get paid a little more than enough to support their families. It's easier said than done.

I don't think anyone can use Yao as a gauge for Chinese draft prospect because he's just one player. If Yao is soft...SO WHAT, it does not mean other players are soft.

In regard to today's game, I don't know if Yao is playing soft or if the Rockets aren't getting him involve in the game. It seems like he never get many opportunities to do anything on the court. He's always moving runing around the court and trying as hard as he can. So I guess this makes him look like a soft player. WHY? Because IF the Rockets establish some type of set plays for him to run and tell him to be assertive he will get the ball. But i hardly see any play that they run in which Yao is aggressive and then receive the ball after. It seems to me Yao does not know what to do on the court in the sense that if he were to back down his man aggressively and establish a position, NO ONE on the Rockets is looking to pass him the ball, so why waste the energy. So that's what it seems like to me whenever I watch a Rockets' game. So most of the time he hesitate a lot in terms of backing down the defender. He doesn't know if he should be aggressive or not cuz the ball is never going to him and keep moving around. I mean if JVG want something as a foundation for this team ...he should establish some type of set plays that make sure Yao will get it then only then will it be alright for Yao to be sure to exert his energy knowing he will get the ball from his teammates. My point is if JVG established some type of sets for Yao, he should not be hesitating everytime he's backing down his man.

Does this Silentfan fellow really concern about Chinese players? Or is he using this chance to diss Yao? You decide.

Shaq doesn't get blocked by point guards and he doesn't get blocked that bad. Yao didn't even get to release the ball yet for crying out loud and the block is all ball and over the top.

I'll tell you one thing, i'm asian and I am ashamed that Yao ming is representing Asians in the manner that he is. He is representing over 1 billion people whether he likes it or not. There's no telling what potential Chinese talent gets passed over because of how Yao ming is flopping right now. For those of you who think he's not flopping, let me ask you this: is he playing the way a #1 draft pick is supposed to be playing, much less a 7'6" 310lb center who is the hope of hundreds of millions? Didn't think so. You all are a lot more patient than I am.

You pushed this thing too hard. YAO is not representing anybody. He is representing himself.

Well...you put yourself in that.....Yao don't want to and intend to respresent you.

What a joke. Don't be so full of yourself.

Great players are leaders and they accept the responsibility for being who and what they are. Yao is the first Asian to be in a position to make a big impact in American sports. Deal with it gentlemen. Yao's in the same position Jackie Robinson was all those years ago. I guess all you white folks wouldn't understand what i'm trying to say. Yao is fully aware of this pressure that he's placed under, its inescapable, and it's not going to go away. If Yao wasn't representing the Chinese people why would President Bush invite him to the white house? Why did Yao attend a conference on improving foreign relations between the US and China? Wake up and smell the roses. You don't have to like it, but thats just the way it is.

I don't think Yao is the first Asian to make a big impact in American sports. Ichiro has already made a big impact in baseball before Yao.

Rick Smits is soft, do you think that people will think all Dutchmen are soft because of him?

And about Yao's personal activities, that's his business and not yours. Yao can try promote his country as a person, but he doesn't represent China when he is on the NBA court, doing his job as a basketball player. He was representing China when he was on the Chinese NT, and he was aggressive in the last Asian Championship.

The Rockets organization is an enigma, that has been the case the last several years, we have been trying to figure this team out - is it the coach? is it the players? is it the management etc.- Yao's ups and downs is part of this enigma.

You are reading too much into all of these. Pardon my bluntness, it's pathetic if you worry about your Asian image hinging on a freaking basketball player. I have never heard of a Dutchman say that Rik Smits is their representative and their image hinges on his play. No one has the right to designate a role without the other party's consent. Get over it and enjoy the ride if it's there, and if it's not, big deal.

Quite frankly, I don't think you are a yao fan or a rockets fan, you are just a fan of yourself. Yao had a bad game, or had been inconsitent for the season. All you can come up is that he hurts your feeling, and your national pride. Yao Ming is a 23 years old bastetball player, and he's an honest, mature, and humble young man. Lots of people around the world like his character. Certainly, as a Chinese myself, I would never be ashamed of him. Actually I am more ashamed of you. He is not a great player yet, maybe or maybe not he can become one one day, but whatever the outcome is, he's a good person. If you need him to score 50 points and grab 20 boards per game to gain your confidence and national pride. Well, that's just pathetic. That kind of pride is just too fragile. Period.

Sure Yao played really bad. But your conclusion using this photo means how ignorant you are. You did not watch the game. Yao was fouled at that play and made two FTs. You may still draw the same conclusion but you have used the wrong photo.

Yao isn't "Hurting Chinese Draft Stock" as you put it. On the contrary, dude. Teams have been flocking to China in search of more Yao Mings. On League Pass, during the 2nd quarter of the Celtic game, Tommy Heinson was interviewing Danny Ainge. He said he had a scout in China as they spoke. Denver has another Chinese 7 footer named Xue Xuyang. Nike sent another 7 foot Chinese kid to Pete Newells Big Man Camp. His name is Yi Jianlian and has serious hops! Check out some pics of him:
