They were above .500 last year, but who cares? That guy said Howard did jack against them in the playoffs and that's just untrue. That's like saying Yao does jack against the clippers when we all know he dominates them regardless of their record.

I agree with Jemelle's argument entirely. For the future, yeah I'd want Howard. But in Yao is more dependable closing out games. Even though we have misgivings about him at times, he is at least a part of the puzzle int he fourth. Howard doesn't have a good enough post game to be the main option down the stretch.

They were pretty close to .500 then. Point being, you can't say Howard has playoff success when the only playoff series victory is against Toronto. Every team Tmac lost to in the 1st round was better than Toronto.

Nevermind that yao plays better against howard that even they try to double yao before he gets the ball.

Some would even say yao probably looks better in blue tights and a red cape.

I apologize for the confusion. I meant to say that he had no answer for Detroit's defense. I wanted to write Detroit, but I was thinking Toronto for some reason.

I just want to say that Yao and Howard are both the best centers in the league and you couldn't find two more different players that both do their jobs well. For example, if you put Howard on the Rockets, his impact would not be as great as it is in Orlando. The Rockets with Howard instead of Yao might not even make the playoffs. The same goes with if you put Yao on the Magic, though to a lesser extent just because they have so many 3 point shooters on that team. Howard excels on a fast paced team where he has good athletic players around him because he doesn't have the ability just yet to be the main cog of the team. Yao needs to be on a slow paced half court team, and should be the #1 option. Yao's skill set is more suited for him to get the ball and set up everyone around him rather than taking a more background role by just rebounding and playing defense, both of which are not his strengths.

Toronto may have been close to .500 but does numbers are impressive in the playoffs I don't care who the other team is. Now I'm not saying Dwight is better than Yao, but a lot of people are clearly bias on the subject on this board. If you read some of the stuff on this board you would think Dwight was an average to below average Center.

I watched the espn thing and thought I'd give my take. It was Skip Bayless and then the young black chick (not the hot one with curly hair who does the mini updates). Also I hate skip bayless because 99% of the time he just says stuff to stir up conversation...BUT

He only looked at the stats and basically said Dwight has the advantage over Yao in every catagory except maybe mental toughness, he isn't sure about Howards desire to win.

She said Yao is better because you can just feed him the ball in the 4th (until very recently I would beg to differ BIG TIME with this opinion) and he is a closer.

My thoughts on what she said is as already mentioned we often try to force feed Yao with the result being epic failure, and I think DHows controls the paint better than Yao so her comments about that were weak. Not to mention that the magic clearly have other very capable scorers that get theirs often times in the 4th (IMHO they are what we could be if TMac wasn't Shemac, but we would be better).

In regards to the 1v1 matchups, yes Yao tends to OWN Howard but thats a max of 2 games a year. Yao also gets OWNED routinely by guys you wouldn't even dream of saying are better than him so using a head to head comparison doesn't really work.

When you combine the stats, age, physicalness, injury proneness, and potential I think its pretty obvious that Howard is the guy you want on your team. Unless of course you are blinded by your fanhood...

(CRAP I left my flame suit at home...)

A fast paced team...which is what we are when Yao isn't on the court...
Main Cog?? Pretty sure he is the unquestioned leader of the 2nd best team in the east and 3rd best in the NBA...just sayin

yao always dominates howard.if yao can get calls like howard,he is unstoppable.yao can dominate fiba and nba, howard can't.the only reason is stern wants his american baby become the best center in the world, the nba refs want kick yao out of game.

these stats do look impressive.. but he just doesnt change the game for the Magic. he isnt their main go to guy in the post or down the stretch.. he gets all his pts from rebounding and stuffing it back in.. He doesnt quite have shaq's skills in the low post.. like his spin move.. or even hook shot..

Please if the NBA was racist then Okur and Kirlenko would foul out in the 1st half of every game.

well, if he can get you 21 points, 14 rebounds, 3 blocks, I would not care how he did it. It is even more spectacular that he got those stats without being the main go-to guy or his fans yelling "feed him the ball".

Also, 21 points and 14 rebounds do change games in NBA.

I wonder if its actually the reverse of this:

They dont want it to look like he gets preferential treatment so they in fact go the other way to make sure it doesnt even look like he gets preferential treatment.

Its like the work situation where a manager is dating an underling. The feeling is equal treatment will actually LOOK like favoritism because of the relationship, so it has to be a bit on the unfair side. In Yao's case the relationship is the Chinese Market that Yao "represents".

Why is this even an argument? Howard is the best center in the game and its not even close. Put Dwight on this Rockets team, and they would easily beat the Jazz

Dwight is the better defender and rebounder.

Yao mops the floor with him on the offensive side.

ESPN is just racist. Anything close always goes to the black man when compared to yao. Howard also gets to play in the rupaul conference of the league.
