Lmaooooooo!!!!!! but yea Thabeet needs some serious work...def dont see him getting any relevant PT anytime soon
...those hook shots don't look so hot. Does he have small hands for his size? Seems like he is shot putting the ball with a stiff hand - don't see a lot of control with it. Seems like he needs to loosen his hands up and gain some more direction on that shot.
...what's the Gladwell estimate - something like 10,000 hours, right? Anyone care to guess how many hours Thabeet has logged on a basketball court? Maybe half that?
If your taking about "Gladwell- Outliers" then yep its 10000 ... its what separates the good from the elite, or something like that! I think Thabeet has probably done, 1/10th that amount. But fortunately for us in Baskeball is never to late to start practicing and get better in this league. Chuck Hayes is exhibit A!
They guy is extremely raw. Needs a lot of work and a lot of playing time. However i don't doubt he is a hard worker and willing to learn. http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2010/sep/29/no-headline---2010-09-28-231913417637/?print=1
Very well said. My sources have told me that the Griz have not done a very good job of bringing Thabeet along. I guess since Marc Gasol has been playing well for them, they haven't had the same sense of urgency to cultivate Thabeet's skills. I got to know Thabeet a bit during the Yao Foundation charity tour, and the guy is a nice dude who is eager to learn. I didn't see any attitude problems. People are getting too caught up in Thabeet's lack of offensive skills, but the first 52 seconds of the video show that Thabeet is pretty athletic, as well as that last dunk at the end of the video. Hakeem was pretty raw, too, in his first few years of college, and really got better in his junior and senior year at UH. That's essentially where Thabeet is at this stage in his career, and with a fellow African like Hakeem to mentor him along, you've got to think Hasheem is super motivated now to put in the work (if that has been a deficiency) to replicate the work that Hakeem put in. Even if Thabeet turns out to be a zero offensively, we were all perfectly happy to have the same in Dikembe Mutombo, who was a force defensively blocking shots as well as rebounding, something you can more likely expect from a 7'3" player. And just think, if Deke hadn't been hurt during the Portland series a couple of years ago, the Rockets probably would have had what they needed to combat Pau Gasol and defeat the Lakers in Game 7 of the next series. Not having a shot blocker and defender in the middle can mean all the difference in the world.
Winner! Everyone wants to make the Deke comparison, but they forget how quickly he developed. He is was a beast for only playing ball for a few years.
