He looks pretty bad to me on that video but I don't care. The guy is 7'3 and you can't teach size. It was a great trade. You have to develop him as much as you can because he can become a great player with that size and athleticism.
I miss Yao Thabeet was pretty competent offensively in his senior season. I'm hoping that it's just taking him a few seasons to get adjusted. You can't teach height. He should at least be able to board, protect the rim, and be an above average post defender.
He seems lazy, even after Yao told him to flick his wrist he still just threw it up there. The only reason he makes those hooks is because of height, there's no consistent motion of his shot. Maybe CD can show him, like with Dorsey The only thing I like about him is he cannot get any worse, that's for damn sure. May RA and his staff work their magic and maybe Olajuwon / Yao / Deke in the offseason talk to him and make him realize he needs to work hard!
If only there was an aspect of basketball which required neither your hands nor your feet, he would be awesome. From his ankles all the way to his wrists, he could be pretty good at basketball!
I see what scouts see. The kids got talent if he sticks to that hook shot like Yao. His bread and butter at 7ft 3 is the hook shot. He doesnt need to do much else except for put backs and dunks. Some layups if in close. Work off pick and roll and dump offs from PG at the rim. I am of the belief maybe that inept team who drafted him doesnt know how to develop big men now after seeing him in afew videos. Rockets might be on to something.
I'm so glad we have so many coaches on this board! This reminds me of when people saw Mario Williams in practice doing drills his rookie season, that he had no technique and no real skills, boy were they wrong.
What's Yao's real height? 7'6 1/2 without shoes and 7'8 - 7'9 with? I see much more than 3 inches between him and Thabeet.
The kid is a project. He needs PT. This is the year for that. Give him enough PT and let's see what happens. Can't hurt us this year, I don't see us going to the playoffs. So roll the dice, and hopefully Thabeet rolls on. Thanks for the nice video!
No, technically Yao is 7'5 w/o shoes, and 7'6 with shoes. Hasheem Thabeet is 7'1.25 w/o shoes and 7'2.5 with shoes. However Hasheem has a 7'6.25 wingspan, while Yao has a 7'4.75 wingspan. Yao is 3 1/2 inches taller, but Hasheem's wingspan is 2 1/2 inches longer. Yao's taller, Hasheem has longer arms its a wash imo ...
I thought he looked familiar. Man how could I not see that.. The man looks like an Avatar... That's the missing thought in my mind. Thanks
This video make me miss Yao even more. His moves are so disciplined and precise. The only chance we have in Thabeet is if he practices he ass off all year long and get mentored by our 3 greats.
the guy has no fundamentals, on those turnaround baby hooks, he is just lobbing the ball up there while Yao is guiding them in the basket
He can make those hooks, so Thabeet > Dorsey at least. He's probably better than Brian Cook also, so baby steps guys.
