Quit making futile excuses for baby Yao. He ain't a baby anymore. Every post player in the league is able to go for an offensive rebound. Yao has a height advantage and a nice chunk of arse he can use to hurt people. He has used it before and it has worked. But it is like he is too considerate sometimes to really take a game over. Like he is playing with his younger cousins or something. He has to be more angry.
I see. So you are taller and heavier than some players in NBA, that means you have dominating those shorter, lighter guys. BTW, I don't recall see your name in any of NBA roster! --daoshi
I was watching some clips from about 3 yrs ago of Yao Ming in China. He seemed a whole lot faster. I swear i saw him steal the ball and run a fast break then dunked it. He did seem alot more skinny too though. He needs to shake his man more. And not just stand 8 feet from the goal and post up.He can hit a good 15 footer if he's always going to be doubled. JVG needs to come up with more options for his center other than just posting up down low. As of right now Patrick Ewing hasnt, proved that he is going to make Yao a better center. I hope he steps up....
Isn't that true most of the time? If being taller and bigger is not a sizeable advantage, why is Yao so hyped? I have high expectation set for Yao and he is still far from being the dominating center I think he could become one day. I'll be patient, at least for another season or two.
Just look at the emotions: At the Asian Games, Yao is screaming after dunks, taunting his opponents, demanding the ball from teammates. And what happened? He dominated. Granted, the players he went up aganist are not as physical (size and skill wise, about same as NBA imo ;p). But he got touches and he did great things with them. Here in the NBA, he is just quiet, period. And in return, he gets ignored a bunch of times. His aggression is just NONEXISTENT here in the NBA. Maybe we can get some psychologist to convince him that he is superior than everyone in the league and then that way he will start being more aggressive? It's simple as that IMO
You do know Yao is the senior guy in the Chinese team why on the current Rox, he's only a sophomore. Steve also made it clear he would continue to be the #1 option.
Not really. There must be more than thousands 7 fts in the world, but only a handful of them be able to play in the NBA. Hyping Yao is the media’s job, the team didn’t do that, and the real cool head fans didn’t do that, either. It’s the bandwagon fans who set up some unrealistic expectation for themselves. As the Rockets fan, we all have high expectation for Yao, and the entire Rockets team. But you get to be realistic about it, take the player & team as they are. Fans here just like the fans everywhere else, they got up so high after a win, or a good game from Yao, they thought the Rockets is a 4th seed team in the West, go as far as comparing Yao to some of the all time greats; where a loss, or a bad game from Yao automatically dump him to be a “disappointment”, the team “sucks”. It’s okay to talk about the strength & weakness of the players and the team, and what strategy works for the team, but many so-called fans here just losers, who got nothing else to do but blaming the players for their sorry life. Maybe that will make them feel better. Too sad! --dao shi
It's easier to do that when you are one of the seniors in the team. He is a junior in the Rockets, how can you expect him to tell all those seniors what to do? Heck, was he carrying the bags for the senior just the last season. I remember in 80's, the Bulls traded couple veteran away to establish MJ as the go to guy. Sometimes you have to the extradinary thing to establish a new era. --daoshi
That's the point, he has to show some respect to the #1 now, but soon he will, i think, claim the respect he deserves
Do you need to be on a roster to post here? I have been getting away with it for a long time then.... And yes, I think that if you are taller and heavier than your opposition, you need to use that to your advantage and take it to em'. This is why Shaq Diesel puts the fear of God into all his opponents. And dback816 explained it perfectly when he talked about the difference between the asian games Yao and nba Yao. That is my point. It isn't like Yao can't play mean, it is that he isn't. He is either intimidated by opponents, teammates, or the refs. He needs to be firmly told by his coaching staff that he is the best player on the court, he needs to demand the ball, he needs to aggresively get into position, and not worry about the stupid fouls the refs are going to give him. Just keep stompin' on all them dudes around you. I can draw an analogy like this. I compete in mixed martial arts competitions. I am 5'9 177lbs. This past weekend I was up against a younger guy (about 19) but he was 6'6'' 280lbs. I was able to dominate him simply because he was being to considerate and polite. There were times in the fight where I know he could have really taken it over, but he hesitated because he didn't want to seem like a bully or disrespectful. In the end I was able to get him on an ankle lock. I am not saying bigger guys are automatically always going to win. But if they are going to win they need to use their size to their advantage and not their disadvantage. I am certainly going to use my speed and maneuverability to my advantage. Just like the smaller centers are using against Yao. Yao must use his natural strengths to his advantage.
What's your stylo, young grasshopper? I wold like to test my wushu skills against yours. what do you know about San Da?
it's just a matter of time before Yao begins dominating on a consistent basis. I say latter half of next season. It will all come together when a) Yao gains some Man strength (usually comes in your mid twenties) b) Yao realizes he can consistently use his physicality to outmatch opponents c) his teammates willingly defer to him as their primary option. Will this come about with the current roster? Most likely not; Cat and or Steve will probably be elsewhere when that happens. Just my 2c prediction...
Actually, Shanghainese love to argue. I am surprised that Yao doesn't complain about the calls that he fails to get more often. Perhaps Yao is a more passive Shanghainese
I'm not sure if I've just been insulted or you are telling the truth. I can see some of this, but I think it's the same attitude as people from New York, we just jaw...... a lot.
I like this analogy. I agree probably a year or two off from when Yao actually achieves manhood. Too bad he can't do it sooner because the rest of the squad is ready. Oh well. Yao is the team. That is a fact. SF and Mobes are a great backcourt but they will never win without a focused Yao. BTW - my father teaches Jiu Jitsu to the US army, so I spent most of my life in that camp, although my personal study has been spent for about five years in the art of drunken boxing. I figured I would concentrate on that fighting style since most of my fights are in the drunken state
Yao is a little bit too soft, but he is playing really smartly! No center in NBA right now has a basketball IQ higher than him. Isn't it a good to play basketball smartly instead of violently?
