Elvin Hayes STILL wouldn't be a better player than Yao even if you factor in his SD days.

To add to that. Neither was Calvin Murphy by your standard. If you really valued longevity, you wouldn't have Clyde in there. In which case, Murphy's non-existent star level play for his career wouldn't make him better than Yao.

    My list would be

    #1 Hakeem
#2/3 Rudy T or Moses Malone, depending on whether you value peak play or longevity or factor in Rudy's coaching days
#4 ???? There is no good candidate here. Yao may not definitely be a top 5 Rocket. But he's definitely worthy of discussion here.

Are you kidding around? 13 years, 21ppg, 5 apg career averages, and TS of 53% for a point guard? Never played less than 64 games?

I watched most of Murphy's career, and I watched all of Yao's career, and I honestly think Murphy gets the nod here. If I take the all-star accolades seriously (each one), maybe I give Yao the nod. But when you play 50 games or less, it doesn't even seem like a "season" to me.

It would be interesting to show averages for "games under contract." Murphy's would basically be the same, and Yao's would be cut in half. Ugh.

    Hakeem, Moses, Calvin, Rudy, Yao

    That's the top 5.

Btw it's kinda weird looking at top 30 PER all time. The only two players (except people like CP3 whose careers aren't close to being over) who aren't shoe-in HoFers for their on-court contributions are Yao and TMac, lol

Wouldn't argue with that at all, B-Bob. I guess the difference for me is that I was a huge fan of Elvin's when he played for the University of Houston. Hayes did a lot for the city of Houston and for basketball. Remember the Big E and Lew Alcindor? The Game of the Century? 53,000 people in the Astrodome for freakin' basketball! And an interesting thought... do the San Diego Rockets end up in Houston if they don't draft Elvin Hayes? I don't know the answer to that, but I've wondered about it from time to time.

All other fan mesage boards would be 90% NO.

if you have to think about it, the answer is no.

    He's not even close.

Thank god he is gone (nothing personal)

Yao is a shoe-in 1st ballot HOFer. I'm willing to take any bet on that.

I specifically said for on-court contributions. Nobody who scored less than 10000 points is a shoe-in for their performance on the court.

Fine, so take out the ones where he was voted in despite having no chance of playing. What's Yao left with? Something like 6 All-Star appearances? Fact is, Yao was a perennial All-Star while he was in the league. He deserved to be as well.

Yep,I agree. Sabonis is going in because its the basketball hall of fame, not nba hall of fame. Yao ming will get in because of his contributions to the nba.

Yes, it was. A bizarre setting for a basketball game, but it worked well enough. It helped that Houston won. The fans had to run the hundred yard dash to mob the court, but they did. It was the first nationally broadcast basketball game. You have no idea how big a deal this game was. It was HUGE!

Granted! I'm a huge homer! There is nothing the Rockets can do wrong in my eyes. But Yao to the Hall of Fame. Heeeeelllllllll No. Great person and good player but HOF! Doubt it...

Until Guy V. Lewis is put in the Hall of Fame it doesn't matter who else is in or out, the institution has zero credibility and is entirely worthless unless they rectify this intellectual dishonesty and injustice.

Indeed. That Coach Guy V. isn't seated in the Hall is a travesty. They are making a mockery of both justice and the sport of basketball.
