No it wasn't. He smacked the crap out of Yao and didn't get any whistle. On the other end of the floor if Yao did that to him he would be nailed with a flagrant.
they showed this on CNN headline news! "getting your shot blocked by a guy 2 ft shorter than u....now how embarrassing is that?" half of it is yaos fault for not talking it to the basket strong. but other half is the refs fault for not callin the foul but..refs didn't call it because they didnt want to "ruin the play." bad ass block > poked in eye.
think about it in the glass half full point of view. The more they show it, the more the nba officals can go "oh **** he scrapped him on the face afterwards, is that legal? NO!" "Oh **** that lil midget who no one cares about almost benched Yao Ming top allstar vote getter from playing. We gotta do something about this." OR you could look at it from a glass half empty point of view. The more they see the clip, the more the officals will go, "AHAHHA okay so poking in the eye on yao ming is legal from now on. I don't know what's up with Kenny Smith, but he has been keep trying to put down Yao and the Rockets lately every time he open his mouth. The other knicks' announcer Mike Breen on the other hand has always been a Yao guy. He usually got good things to say about Yao every time he do play by play with the Rockets game. Mike Breen has been a Yao supporter even before he got drafted.

Where did I ever dispute whether it was a foul or not? It doesn't change the fact that Yao was stuffed by one of the smallest guys in the NBA. There's no way a guy 7'5 and over 300 lbs should allow that to happen. How does stating the facts translate to being a childish post? well the shaq now definately.. but the young shaq would of gotten the ball in the whole already.. he was much quicker and powerful
I'm 5'10'' and 180lbs, I've played bball my entire life and has decent hops, it's not that hard to poke someone who's 7'6'' in the eyes....hell, it's not even hard if he was 8'.
it's big deal! if we can win the games who cares it's who or how blocked yao's ball. sure i agree nba now more likely is a show business, but if we cant win then for fans there'll be no fun at all.
I love Rockets and love Yao, but that was an amazing block. It doesn't matter what team you follow, or whether you're a YOF or a Yao-hater. If you like highlights (and everyone does) then it doesn't get a lot better than this. Nate Robinson is most famous for being the smallest player in the league with super hops (even if he's not the smallest, that is how he's known.) Yao is well known for being the tallest. The smallest blocking the biggest, in spectacular fashion, is going to be major highlight material. Nate's blocking hand continued downward after swatting the ball and poked Yao in the eye so bad he couldn't continue down the court for the next possession. Now, to give major props to the Knicks play-by-play man, not long after the block he said in a hesitant voice that a player's shot continues until he lands back down on the floor, and if a foul happens before that... But Kenny wasn't going to hear any of it. It was a real pleasure listening to the NY announcers. Balanced, not too homerish, educated opinions. And Kenny always had love for Luther every time he had the ball.
You guys have to realize if Yao was black this wouldn't be such a big deal. They are going to talk about it in Around the Horn today.
It was a nice block... and no call... but give a little love the other way once in a while ref's I hope Yao is reading these forums... because im seeing a disturbing trend... where it seems like guys are intentionally trying to hurt or bully Yao... or atleast feeling they can get away with it, playing Yao so tight because Yao just takes it,.... and the refs dont call it... time to take over and start laying out some punishment of your own...and hurt someone before they hurt you.... there was a play in that game when Yao was pissed... telling JVG they arnt calling fouls... no doubt JVG said make a aggressive move on the post up... Yao gets called for the charging... what Yao needs to learn is that guy needed to be on the ground and in writhing in pain... he needs to learn to be mean like Shaq was to him.... he needs to learn that if he puts someone on the ground in the hospital...he might not have a 5"9 guy bocking his shot in the future...
He didn't poke him in the eye until after he'd already blocked his shot. Quit looking at it from such a homer perspective.
