That last performance was pathetic. I just hope he gets as much Shaq does against them. If he gets that much I'll be happy. SHAQ vs Phoenix. split Jan 6.....8....pts 13....rebs 0...block Jan 26..15....pts 12....rebs 1...block AVG.....11.5.pts 12.5..rebs 0.5 block
Great job by Yao. I've always been really excited ever since the Rockets drafted him, but his recent play is really starting to get me goin'. If he has a huge game tonight, that would be just sick! Hopefully, he doesn't dissapoint, but players just don't play as well against certain teams - and that's fine.
May be fine with you but not to some other people. I can guarantee you the littering of "Trade Yao" and "Yao sucks" threads if we lose the game tonight and he has a subpar game.
This thread gets 5 stars. I hope the rockets have an extra bounce in their step tonight. Their gonna need it.
IMHO, the significance of this POW award is that other than the impressive numbers, this maybe the first time he walked out of the shadows of playing second fiddle alongside another superstar. In the past POW, he was playing alongside Steve Francis. In this POW, he was instrumental to the 3 wins, playing alongside a half-hearted and underpar Tracy McGrady (still stricken with the loss of his mother-in-law) in 2 games, and another monster game of 20/20 against the Golden States Warriorswithout TMAC. Hopefully, this award will inject and boost self-confidence in him that he is the centrepiece, nucleus and leader of his team and he further proves it by leading his team to beat Phoenix Suns today.
Not really, remember in his second season, he completely took over Francis' reign of the team. He was the leading scorer and rebounder of the Rockets for that season. JVG made sure that.
LOL, Phoenix suns said, "If one play sums up the two games Shawn Marion has had back-to-back this week — if he doesn’t win the NBA Player of the Week Award, an investigation will follow —" Live with it, people!!!
Congratulations Yao! Keep it up big fella! Regarding his performance against the Suns- they have a game plan to take out the big men evidenced by their approach to Shaq as well as Yao. Yao has to do his thing but this one is more on JVG to come up with something different to make it possible. Lest we forget, remember the swarming zone defense used by the Supersonics against Hakeem in game 1 of the 95-96 western conference semis? Dream ended up with: 3/9 shooting, 6 pts, 4 rebs in 34 minutes. Similar type of defense is being used by the Suns on Yao except that they don't even need to try to hide the fact that they are sending 2-3 guys at him.
