nah. until the last possession, the rockets did what we want.. pound it to yao for good % shots. everyone else clear out and get open for a kickout jumper. yao got fouled on 1 possession, and one shot was in and out of the basket. that's what we want. those are good percentage shots, better than someone else with a lower percent jacking it up the only thing we need is yao to get better at drawing the foul (they basically have to foul him like they did this game at the end once he has position) and better at finishing the 3 POINT PLAY. if we could turn convert yao with a timely 3 point play we'd win soooo many more games. yao's gotta get better at finishing the basket with contact.... instead of waiting for the whistle. even if the whistle does come, throw it down big guy! and 1
Ref is human who can make mistake ,even on purpose but the main problem is due to us ,check our 3pts today ,it's only 22.2% ,damned.
exactly - someone on team Yao should tell him that the lost income from commercial endorsement due to lost games is far more than the fines that NBA could ever hand out. Shaq was never afraid of blasting the refs - rememeber his 'games are decided by the people who make the least money on the courst' comment? that was stupid though becasue he didn't know the refs fix games and make way more money than their NBA salary.
this is all good and dandy, and i can't disagree. but how the heck do you make a 3pt play when someone hacks on your arms? getting stronger?
All I can say is that after 5 yrs in the nba, yao still hasn't learned to keep the ball high and tight with his elbows up. After 5 yrs he still plays to high. After 5 yrs he still doesn't dunk the ball enough and losses the ball too much. He played good tonight, but during crunch time he made 2 to's. It happened in the playoffs last yr averaging almost 5 to's a game. All the old rox fans that have watched this team before ming know that big guys get officiated different. Hakeem was abused nightly, just like Moses. Shaq was fouled for no reason as well as ewing, mourning and the rest. What seperates the good from the great.is the ability to play through that and stay aggressive. For all u newcomers and yao followers that think yao is unfairly officiated, go and find the 1994 rix championship games vs the Knicks. If you think Yao gets pushed, held and everything else, check out what dream went through for 7 games. Once you get through with that, go find any Magic or Lakers game from yrs 1992 thru 2003 and watch those games with Shaq. The inside game is called different than the outside game. That's why I've always admired Shaq. He was abused and punished for being bigger and stronger than everyone else. The one thing about Shaq is every yr he was among the league leader in ft attempts. That's because he justkept coming and coming and never faded away or would shy away from physical play. That's the reason why Howard avg 10 ft attempts a game. In the nba the refs reward aggressive play and players. If you want free throws, you have to attack the rim or the defender. You have to take it strong, dunk on people when you have to, elbow people in the nose or jaw to get people off you sometimes. If you play p***y u get f****d. I can't make it any simplier than that.
You fail. Yao was fouled as he was going up for a hook shot following a post-up dribble. He was fouled from the top by the big man he was posting, not from the bottom by a guard. Your logic fails ridiculously. "He still doesn't dunk the ball enough" ... try coming back when you watch a few more Rocket games this season. If you blow smoke out of your butt, you will be called out. Count on it.
I agree, like horse racing, there is a group of steward to monitor the jockey to prevent them from pulling the horse. If the jockey did that they will face the penalty. I think nba should create a system to monitor the referees in order to prevent them from the bad call. Question the referee in charge and if the steward have a good reason to suspect their unprofessionalism, just penalty them. "It's Time" for nba to take an action. Otherwise the problem will be endless and might be rolling bigger and bigger.
This game comes down imo to a few problems: 1. Playing Chuck Hayes over Scola. Why did Scola play so little. RA needs to make the switch. 2. Rest Yao. He needed to take the last minute of the 3rd and the first 4 minutes of the 4th quarter off after dominating so well in the 3rd. 3. Make your free throws. The Rockets missed six! A problem all season. 4. Turnovers. Look at our TO/assist ratio today. Sloppy play today. 5. Refs missed some calls but you can't count on them when the game is on the line. The Rockets lost this game well before #5. It shouldn't have come down to the last 30 seconds if the Rockets would have hit shots, not turned the ball over and RA had a better rotation going. I hate the way Yao is officiated no doubt but I could tell in the second quarter that this was a game the Rockets could have had but wouldn't get. All the things the Rockets had done well in their streak they did poorly today with the exception of Yao and Scola's play. Refs certainly didn't help but they can't be held responsible.
I'm not going to call you out on lack of hoops knowledge. What I will do is just site some example and we'll go from there. As old as he is, how many time have u seen deke get the ball slapped out from behind or lose a rebound in his grasp? Everyone can agree on not that many. Is that because deke is stronger or bigger than Yao?No. Its because when deke has the ball, his elbows are up. History has shown players that if you run in on deke, you might get elbowed in the face. Again, I will just lay examples out there and you can answer them. How many times is Yao right by the basket and instead of dunking the ball and getting a foul plus a ft. he just gets the ft? Is it fair to say Yao could add 3-4 pts per game on his avg if he just dunk the damn ball? Lets just not focus on tonight, just look at his career since he's been in the nba. Every yr he's a high to center. Is he a to prone player because he has a low bb iq or because unlike in china he is playing against stronger players. I would say he has a good bb iq, but some of his sloppiness with the ball has been there since day 1. I do think yao gets a unfair shake at a lot of fouls, but he still haven't learned. How many times have you seen a 6ft guard get into his body and get the hoop plus the foul? After yr one maybe something should click and tell him if the little guy gets in his body, the refs will call a foul,so foul the guy hard. I mean, nevermind
Scola had trouble defending David West. Chuck was a lot more effective. Agree with most of everything else you said except ... despite the blown layups and missed free throws (especially by Yao), the Rockets were still in control until the second no-call foul that directly led to a 5 point turnaround. I agree that if they had been a bit more focused earlier and not blown the easy opportunities it wouldn't have come down to it ... but the officiating gaffe was so egregious that one cannot but complain.
You're still blowing smoke out of your butt. Yao was not fouled on the rebound, and he was not fouled because he put the ball on the floor. He was fouled by a 7 footer who reached across his body and hacked down across both arms as he was going up for a hook. You'd have to be a complete idiot to blame Yao for losing the ball in that instance. Really. A complete idiot.
How much basketball have you actually watched in the 90's?? Everybody got away with physical, inside and outside. It's an era where the hand-check controlled perimeter, and the last few minutes was no blood, no foul for BOTH SIDES. And homie, every time Shaq drop steps, lowers his shoulders, turns and dunks he should be called for an offensive foul. I admit he takes a lot of punishment, but if you say the person guarding him should realistically foul out in 5 minutes if the game were called fairly, Shaq will foul out easily within 7 minutes.
kudos to jeoarde and rocketsfan. i was gonna write something in response along the lines you just did, but felt like why should i waste time on arguing with a ridiculous post, especially having had a tough afternoon after the loss.
