    What he said.

But think a minute. Dirk hasn't been able to take his team anywhere further than the what 2nd round I believe. He has been surrounded by many players with skills equivalent or better to what we have here with the rockets minus Yao.

Atleast with Yao we know he has the 'potential' to get us past the second round and into the finals. That is again, if we ever get that far

Anything to get rid of Yao. They guy is becoming a joke quickly. He's pushed around by players half his size. His free throw shot has gone from being automatic to Shaq-like. He doesn't hit jumpers. He can't make layups. He bricks dunks. He's blocked by point guards. And when he's finished with all that, there's always room for a few crucial turnovers. Of course, that's assuming he ever gets the ball, which is usually impossible because of his absurd inability to get position. Then there's the fouling problem. All any player has to do to get to the line is run straight at Yao, and he'll find a way to send them there. Usually for three point plays, because when he does foul, he doesn't foul hard enough.

As far as I'm concerned, the 2002 draft was a complete bust for the Rockets.

If Yao had shown ANY sign of improvement from last season I would be dead set against trading him for Dirk. But if he continues to progress/regress at the rate he's going, I would absolutely trade him for Dirk.

a guy who drops 20 in his sleep, plays about 35 minutes a night, and steps up in the playoffs versus a guy who rides pine in the 2nd half most of the time, fouls out when he's in there, and couldn't make the playoffs with a top 5 backcourt helping him and who has actually gotten worse for the last 2 months? oh and the age difference is minimal. tough one there.

It is getting to the point where I conjure trade proposals with him. I am enamored of neither Steve nor Yao. The former massages the basketball, the latter has the mobility of a telephone booth.

But the whole question is moot. Getting Yao took jumping through 5000 hoops. If CD wouldn't admit that spending three first round picks on Eggie was a mistake---and not even trade Rice and Eggie for Shareef---then Yao certainly is safe here.

But then the question might come up in a year or two: will Yao stay here when the time comes?

Yao plays basketball year round and he's gonna break down. In a few years he's gonna be one of those roadside jalopies.

Hypothetically: Yes, Yao and Mo for Dampier/Hudson/Dunleavy would make us the better team. Hypothetically: Steve for a Real Point Guard or Point Forward would make us a better team.

Realistically? I don't know if Les and/or CD have the guts to do what Phoenix did, even if we could improve now.

The trade makes a lot of sense: a lot of teams will have better use of Yao than Rox: Mav, Kings, Spurs, Nets, just name a few.

We run the slowest offense in the league, and Yao takes about 6 minutes to get tired.

You expect him to run with the Nets, Kings or Mavs? Are you serious or did you just forget to put a  at the end of your post?

F4P, your best post ever. I'm not joking. But this begs the question of why Dallas would ever, in a million years, pull the trigger on this trade.

What wears him out is fighting against two players in the post without getting the ball. He won't have that problem with Mav and Kings because those teams move the ball well and are full of gunners, so he won't be double teamed all the time. He doesn't have to run with guards on fastbreaks, if the guards know how to finish (ours don't). Divac, Miller arn't fast runners either and they do well with Kings. If Yao goes to Spurs, then he can play longer because TD will get most of the attention. If Yao goes to Nets, then everything will be easier just because that is east and Nets has a real PG in Kidd and another scorer in Kmart.

trade the big fella, let's see how Nash, Parker, Kidd or Bibby feed Yao the ball. Or the big guy never get developed.
It's fun to see that, isn't it.
