shurg, every single person in my generation that I grew up with went through this. maybe its because we were all first generation immigrants. perhaps there are less expectations for the second or third generation types, especially on the west coast
Are you here to debate or troll? Yao +/- stats suck because the players around him suck. The problem here is, Yao gives up too much, therefore he's promoting the suckage. So this is partly Yao's fault. He's got take more control, he's got feel pumped and overconfident to shoot more. Right now, the management has assembled a crack team and I think it's up to Yao and TMac to shoot our way to the playoffs. Forget about rest of the garbage that are tagging along =\ Each take 25 shots a game and we're golden.
Stereotypes are often statistical truths but does not apply to individuals. For example, Americans are on average weathier than Russians, yet the richest 1% of Russians might have a higher standard living than 80% of us. You can say America is a richer nation than Russia, but you can't say that about any particular Ameriscan vs. a particular Russian until you investigate their incomes. Parents (and their genes) benefit when their chidren excell and proliferate. So they can be more disappointed than your neighbor when you fail exams and become a bum. I can see how a Chinese population can be harder on Yao when he fails to explode and lift their whole ethnic group into American mainstream.
The example of Chinese parents being hard on a kid for a 93 instead of a 100 isn't even close to a statistical truth. I've known probably at least 100 Chinese kids while I was in school and that kind of mentality was attributed to maybe 10-20% of their families. Sure the parents wanted them to do good, but that is the case with pretty much any family. This perfectionist attitude IMO isn't nearly as prevalent as some people make it out to be.
That may be a good thing, I think he has gotten a bit slower with all the added weight. Yao seemed more active at a lower weight. DD
