Yao is putting up 19 and 9 in his 4th season of basketball. Yeah, he sure is struggling with American basketball.
By the time Sabonis came to play for the NBA, he was already pretty far into his decline....slightly overweight and with ankle problems that screwed up his mobility. Yet, he was still able to be an above average center. Even today, he's considered the best passing center of all time. Seriously, the guy could had court vision almost as good as some of the best point guards in the league. It was ridiculous. He was actually drafted in 1985, but wasn't able to come play in the NBA until 10 years afterwards because of the Cold War. Even then, he still became the runner-up rookie of the year at age 32. Seriously, if he had come to play for the Blazers back in 1985, that team could easily have become a dynasty with Sabonis/Drexler on it.
I've never been a Yao fan. Many posters on this board just ruined Yao for me by proclaiming him to be "the next Shaq" or "better than Hakeem" before he ever stepped on the court. Then after his rookie year it was "oh, Steve doesn't pass" or "Cat takes stupid shots" and after year 2 "Steve is the problem, he doesn't get Yao the rock" and so on and so on. I'll admit that Yao has done pretty well, but when you get LeBron like attention and then you aren't even the best postman in your draft class...To the point though. I cannot say that Yao is a superstar until he gets to the point where you can just trhow the ball to him and he scores. What I mean is that Yao gets a hefty portion of his points off of assists. He has to be set up to score while EVERY other all-star type player gets there own. Just as much as Yao makes others better he relies on others to make him better and that is not a superstar or a max value guy. I would rather we traded Yao for TMac and kept Steve and Cat. Atleast then we wouldn't be wearing Communist Chinese uniforms and paying the government of our successor superpower millions of dollars a year. Way to be patriotic Les.
so we should only draft americans because its patriotic? geez - this is basketball. would it be patriotic then to trade Yao for Chris Mihm and Odom?
posts like this remind me tmac's new slogan "Impossible it Nothing", only you replace the "impossible" with "STUPIDITY"! i really wanted to argue with you but didn't know where to start.
Am I missing something? I didn't realize that Duncan, Garnett, or Shaq set up their offenses or brought the ball up the court. I was under the impression that the ball was dumped into them or should I say "set up to score." The other part about Steve and Cat and the cheapshot at Les is just pathetic and sad. Way to be down with diversity.
there is a difference between dumping the ball into the post and having to have your teammates set you up when you are flashing across the middle under the bucket. what i meant was that rarely does yao get the ball out of position to score and score the ball, many of his buckets are ones where he gets the ball and in one motion goes up with it as opposed to using his talent to get his shot. regarding the whole china thing, it may not be pc, but it is true. half of yao's salary goes to the same government that refuses to trade equally with us, that refuses to recognize human rights, that pollutes the hell out of the environment, and that will eventually have the us by the short hairs. i know that it is not yao's fault, but to shoot the messenger is REAL classy. Church, Tabernacle, Prophet Elijah Titty One, Titty Two My mental Gymnastics will flip you like an Aunt Jemima Flapjack
former Iraqi Information Minister Muhammed Saeed al-Sahaf was once a messenger... but most what he said was lie, misinformation, or out of ignorance.
ok. how about this? if china does not float it's currency and the trade balance with the US does not improve..let's ship Yao out of here for Odom and Chris Mihm.
