His past behavior has been very deferential to Chinese custom. He turned down a boatload of money from Nike because he felt respected. As long as the Rockets stay loyal and upfront with him, he'll likely return the favor.
Let me make sure were on the same page you said again.... so are we treating him fairly? or in your mind is there something we could do better? is there something we could have done better?
What's the big deal? Its not like he's changed the rules or has been dominating the league or something. The Rox don't need Yao to win a ring. Boston, detroit and to a extent Sa proved you don't even need a center. You get a pf/c combo like Utah and you can win. What's the fuss?
If the front office can land a young allstar guard then Yao might stay. otherwise, he is going to NY or LA.
Yao wont leave, he is a very loyal person and the majority of his contract goes to China anyway.Yao will spend his entire career here.
It all depends on how well the Rockets do in the playoffs this year and next year. If they fall flat again and again, I wouldn't be surprised if Yao opts out in 2010. That would spell the official end of the TMac-Yao era which would be remembered as a giant "what would have been", aka failure. Let's hope that it will not come down to that.
yao actually has changed the rules - in that a defender can do whatever he wants and only gets called 1 out of 10 times. and yao is the most doubled big in the league right now. yao leaving (if it happens) is not the end of the world, but don't pretend it's a no biggie.
Did I "categorize" in that statement? Fact is 忠, 孝, 仁, 義 have always been the core values of Chinese. We were taught by our parents to follow these core values and we are influenced by the books we read as kids (what values do you think books like 水滸傳, 西遊記, 三國演義 are trying to preach?). You know Chinese so you should know the meaning of that 4 characters. Sometime I do like to "categorize" people for fun: like I always wish Yao was smart enough to plot like a BeiJiing people and played with strength like a ShanDong fellow. Now this is "categorization", my last post? That's a waste of time!
In such case, you may say that they are "loyal" to the dollar sign. I regret that I have brought the prohibitted word "Chinese" in this Yao thread where everything was derailed since then. My apology. I am rather surprise some posters here act like this is some sort of breaking news that Yao could be a free agent too in 2010. It is not. The free agent list in ESPN has long listed Yao was one of them. He wasn't considered available at all was simply no sane analysts would think 1. Yao will opt out his contract and become available in 2010. 2. Rockets will give up on Yao and let him know beforehand so that Yao will opt out his contract at that time.
Yao should do whatever he feels is best for his career....and the Rockets should as well, it is a business. DD
As a business, the Rockets would not want to have Yao leave because of his fan and market power. Also the comment about why he signed with Reebok instead of Nike, I remember when he said that it's not about the money but the respect given.
