If it's the injury described in that thread, I must say I will take back my previous view of it's a blessing in disguise. However, if Yao don't rush back from rehab, it should don't be that big of a deal. Even from the CNT point of view, it might not be that bad, now some of the younger guys can shine and have trial by fire which would only benefit China in 08. Think how well Yao did after T - Mac went down and for once, he was the man on the team for a long stretch of time.
The season won't start until November, I just hope they don't do surgery, it seems whenever there is a screw put in place it takes longer to heal. 2 months he should be fine, but just to be safe, take 4. That puts him with 8 weeks to go before the season...plenty of time. Get better Yao ! DD
This news is really shocking. I didn't expect anything like this to happen at all. Yao is a real professional and a fighter. I hope and pray for his complete recovery and health. We might get a better idea after getting information about his medical reports. He shouldn't participate in the World Championships. We need him to get healthy for the next season.
congratulations "PRIDE" and "FOCUS ON WINNING" and "LET YAO DEVELOP HIS SKILLS" fans.... y'all got what u want... there you go.. Yao will really benefit from a broken foot that might cause him some serious problems.. I've been saying it for about 3 weeks LEASE DONT PLAY YAO, IT'S NOT WORTH IT, THE SEASON IS OVER, TANK, REST HIM, WE DONT WANT HIM TO GET INJURED.. but nooooooooooooooo, he needs to develop and get used to playing.. that what u get VAn r****d.... u just proved to me that ur the dumbest coach in Basketball's history... good luck with your "WINNING CULTURE"...
The problem is, with injury to a foot for a man of Yao's size, there's always risk. You never know. Yeah, it MAY turn out ok, but the risk is always there. Any broken bone to Yao's foot is never a good thing. Not mentioning the pain and discomfort Yao has to suffer.
I think CNT is not that short-sighted. This year's WC is not as important as the '08 Beijing Olympic, in which China considers it has the best shot at a medal. No sane people would rush Yao to play if he is not 100% recovered.
It sucks for Yao, it can potentially suck for Rox fans (let us all join hands in prayer that Yao recovers well), it kinda suck for CNT (though it could even be a good thing if the young players develope and Yao return to full force for 08). What can you really say at this point, lets just hope he gets better.
Yao isn't the type to fake this type of thing. Hopefully it isn't as serious as some here are making it out to be and Yao can heal in time for next season. That being said, JVG can you pleeeease just play the young fellas now? Things can't really get much worse for us, lets just focus on the draft and hopefully we'll get a high pick. It really sucks that Yao's hurt himself, i'd rather have a healthy, confident Yao than an extra ping pong ball--but we must now make the best of a terrible, terrible season. Get well soon, big man.
Where were you 3 weeks ago. Suddenly people are jumping out shouting "tank tank tank", "told you so". Where were u? I actually did it and got bashed to death and nobody came to my defense.
Murphy's law: if things can go wrong, it will go wrong. Things can always get worse! Did we think Tmac will get injured at the beginning of the season? Did we think Tmac will get injured again after he first came back, especially after his stellar performance against Nets? Did we think Tmac will be done for the season after he get injured again after 2nd comeback? Did we think Wesley will get a rib injury caused by a camerman? Did we think Yao will get injured (on his left foot!) after he came back? Each time I saw the words "it can't get any worse" I feel chill in my spine.
the CNT thinks in a way we don't understand. shouldn't they have let Yao rest two summers ago and give him a chance to develop better. Nope, they played him in a series of exhibition games and the almost meaningless asia games.
I forsee terrible ratings for the Rockets now. Yao's a warrior. If they put a screw in his foot, when he gets mad at someone on the court he'll take that screw out and stab someone with it, then put it back in his foot and keep playing. He's that tough. As long as he doesn't become like Marcus Camby, who misses half the season with things like a stomach ache, hurting ring finger, sore thigh, sore calves, etc. Compare that to Yao who played through that toe infection and all those bs calls every night, and still deals with the bs calls. He plays through all the hate by the media, and all the over-rating by a lot of "fans". And Iverson, who plays through just about anything, you name it.
You're right--things can always get worse. I don't even want to think of the possibilities......what a sh** season. But there are brighter days ahead, and the Rockets are due, for they have paid their dues.
Guys - if Yao had a nagging injury or was playing in pain - then maybe they should have held him out. But he didn't have anything wrong with him. He's a professional. He gets paid to play basketball. Playoffs, no playoffs - it's just a simple fact of life. He risks injury every single practice, he risks it driving to the Toyota center. These things happen, it's just par of pro sports. It still sucks, but three's really nothing you can do about it. You have to play your players, playoffs or not. Say JVG started to limit him to first half only starting the other day when they got eliminated Well this wouldn't ahve prevented the injury. It was a freak accident, early in the game. It just happened. It's a contact sport.
