Though I don't necessarily agree that the majority of his votes came from China and I won't puke, I posted this same basic premise last year several times and got majorly flamed several times. Anywho, Yao's scrawmy ass isn't even in the same league as Shaq - who flat out dominates. Yao's must overcome his timidness and learn that he can control the game if he ever hopes to compete with Shaq. I do believe that Yao is the second best center in the West, and does deserve to be in the game, just not starting. I know I'm going to get it, so flame away.

    Overlook your bias...

    Gasnapalm,

I've clearly stated that I acknowledge that is a popularity contest, however there is a legitmate reason that the All-Star game ought to partly be who deserves it. You can't just throw people like Vince Carter like he was last year simpily because a bunch of 13 year old kids think Carter is awesome. Also, a lot of people point to All-Star appearances a value to a player. If the All-Star game is purely about the popularity then they should stop pointint to All-Star appearances as a judgement to how a player is worthy.

And, if I may go to an extreme, if the All-Star game is truly about popularity then I want Micheal Jordan in it and Magic Johnson. I also want Lebron James in there on the West team just so I want to see him and Carmelo Anthony on the same team. I guess it's not such a popularity contest, huh? ;)

    Arkoe,

You're not alone. I know I'm right in saying that Shaq is better then Yao. This isn't an opinon. This is reality. I hope in the next coming seasons Yao will develop into his prime and be better then Shaq, but at this point, anyone that thinks Yao is dominating Shaq is blind.

By the way, good luck to the Rockets in Dallas tonight. At least we can all agree that Yao is better then Bradley right? :)

You are qualified as "ignorant, stupid " when you put skill & talent in the same sentence with All-Star game. It's a show for the fans, not for the best players.

I can't agree with that more. Based on character alone, Yao deserves it much more than Shaq. Shaq is a good player, but he's also an fat ass, arrogant, whiny b**** who cares nothing about the fans. He missed games last year because he was too lazy to have surgery early in the off-season, which ultimately ended up hurting his team.

    Brentdapmp,

1.) The point of this thread is because this is a message board and I can bring any Rockets-related topic I want.

2.) So if I think Jordan in his prime is better then Vernon Maxwell in his prime, I am a Chicago fan? I think you see some flaws in your logic. Can you?

why do you keep answering your own question? First your saying all star game is not truly about popularity then your b****ing about carter making it last year? How did he make it? popularity....why are you going to an extreme? If the all star teams are decided by fan voting how can you even argue that its nothing but popularity? tell me what other variable is involved

    Kryten128,

Character makes someone a better basketball player? That's crap. David Robinson donated more openly then Hakeem, does that mean Hakeem didn't own him? Character makes people a better a human being, not a better basketball player. If you're going to debate on who deserves more, it should be based on basketball related accomplishments, not community-related accomplishments.

You had me at Ming, you lost me at puke.

There is an "I" in maturity.

I already made a point that there is partly about accomplishments in an All-Star game. I've remained composed throughout this thread while you people are telling me to join a Lakers board without much rationale.

To add more to my point that the All-Star game is partly about recognition, why do the coaches vote for the reserves and not the fans? Answer me that.

Please don't call me ignorant, I've shown little of that. Can't say for the majority of you...

I feel ashamed for you. As a Rox fan you should WANT to see your own center to play in the ALLSTAR game if he is any good. Why do you WANT to see other team's center to play at that position while you have a very good center and you believe in your heart that he should be an allstar? ALLSTARs are not necessarily the best players and certainly not determined by "respect". ALLSTAR GAMES are for the fans. It has been that way for as long as it has exsited. Your effort will not change that.

If Lebron gets to start (or even play) in the All-Star game I think I'm going to puke. Make him earn it.

... well, if being flamed on a Rockets site will determine whether you ARE a Rockets fan or not, you're not much of a fan.

But, the point is that the NBA All Star game is popularity driven. Its who the fans want to see this year play one another. Yao won the vote by a similar amount at the arenas over Shaq, as well as over the Internet, where Chinese voters were able to influence the vote.

Last year, everyone wanted to see Yao play. This was not only at the all-star game. Every city the Rockets visited had a significant increase of fans coming to the games. That is the issue. If everyone wants to see Yao again this year, then he'll win the vote again.

I don't think anyone, including Yao, would argue the point over whether Shaq is the better player or not. But, that is not what the all-star game is about.

You come on a Rockets board and start off by putting Yao Ming, All-Star game, and puke in the same sentence, and tying them together? And you're expecting, what, no retorts or ridicule?

    Give me a minute...

    Yep, that qualifies as ignorant.

I totally disagree with that. As I already stated clearly, Shaq HURT HIS TEAM by not having surgery early in the off-season, as he should have. That is a part of his character and plays a major role in his ability to play. His character hurt his ability to play, in this case. You're just plain wrong in thinking that character does not affect a player's play. Just look at Eddie Griffin or Mo Taylor. They are not helping their team at this moment because of character flaws, not because they're not decent players who can help the team.

I am a bigger fan of the NBA in general. I think the All-Star game should be fairly given dispite of the popularity. Do I want Yao to start at center? Yes. Do I think he should? No. See the difference? You people seem to think I'm rooting for Shaq, I'm not. But I'm not going to be stupid enough to suggest 12 Rocket players as all-stars. I don't think Jim Jackson should be an All-Star, you guys have a problem with that?
