I think that was coz Nike first offered a contract that had some terms that Yao couldn't agree with, but Nike refused to change the term. It was not after Rebook signed a preliminary contract with Yao that Nike decided to throw out a huge contract to Yao (double than Lebron's, I think). But then Yao turned it down coz he wanted to keep his promise with Rebook.... (details of it I am not sure, this is all I can remember from that incident)

Steve and Carter are the only two who don't derserve to be in the all star, I want to see Sam Cassel!!!!!!!

Are you saying the Kings are 31 - 12 because of Brad Miller? If that was the case than he definitely deserves to start.

If you have a problem with Steve starting than you should feel the same way about Yao.

Not exactly... the positions are different. Steve has clearly been outclassed by different guards this year. Cassell is the obvious guy who should be in in Steve's place. He'll be a reserve, though, unless there's some sort of conspiracy.

Yao's done okay this year. I don't think he should be there this year, but this is a popularity contest. Shaq was injured, too, and so Yao is a little more justified. I guess the other question is which other centers are worthy?

Yao is a tolerable choice, Steve is not. His image got him in, not his play.

i dont know what reebok's status is in terms of this, but i mean if nike had sweatshops in my town i wouldnt endorse them. for some reason i think that may have been a reason for yao too because he would be making money off his own exploited countrymen, women and children

but i mean thats just me

It would be nice to finally see Sam. He's up there with Eddie Johnson in terms of most career points without an all-star appearance. Go ET!

Just like Yao should have been honorable last year and gave up his starting job to Shaq?

The numbers weren't even close last year.

First of all, I am very glad SF and Yao start for all-star.

Talking about the qualifications, I think Yao definetely deserves more than Miller. Miller is a good player, but he never carries a team on his shoulder, he is just third, even forth options in Sac team. His influence is limited.

Anyway, AS game is just a popularity competition. It is fine for me. Since Carter leads votes four times in all star voting, there is no more argument about Yao or Steve imo.

Isn't Yao the first NBA player who gonna participate in both the sophomore team in the NBA's Rookie Challenge and All-Star Game ?!

    Probably..

I dont think its about who deserves it and ive come to grips with that. Its about who the fans want to see.. since the NBA is a business im glad there is a day for the fans.

to make a case though.. Shaq has missed 1/3 of the season while Yao has been consistent and BMiller is not the impact player on his team that Yao is on ours.

Look, without Chinese votes, Yao certainly can't beat Shaq. There are a lot of Chinese live in America and Canada as well.

But this is a great victory for Yao and all yao fans and rockets fans indeed. Well done everybody!

I think laker fans was mentally prepared for this even before the vote, they probably will still boo Yao, but they know it's acceptable for Yao to be in.

You could say that w/o the black votes, Shaq may not have made it as close, right?

Why should these people who live in US and Canada be excluded from casting paper votes?

Please don't overplay this race issue! Otherwise I am going to argue that there are many more black fans living in US and Canada.

If fans vote along race line, then it is Shaq who has the advantage. The outcome proves fans don't vote alone race line. So stop saying Yao was voted in by Chinese fans.

even the whole asian community is no match to the black community. That race argument doesn't stand.
