A good thinking, but it is no going to happen on the court. Never seen a great big man who used a three for a tool although he can take a few three when he is in such a position. 20% middle range jump should be taken besides those post-plays.
Yao is the most effective post-up player on the Rockets. We want him posting up and the guards feeding him, not the other way around. If you want to play Yao this way he will be REALLY be a 7'6" Brad Miller (this is how Sacto's offense ran, Brad fed Artest/Bonzi in the post). He's way better than this and it would be a great waste of his talent, not to mention giving fuel to the "Yao is a soft sack of crap" detractors.
NO. I don't want Yao turning to a freckin Memet Okur. Yao is dominate on the low post. keep him there.
the point isn't to completely turn him into okur, but if he can shoot here and there he can also switch to a more mid range game. Watch him working out with dream, Yao has two types of attacks, full on shot and low post. adelman can generate an offense where yao is forced to play with more finesse. to all those out there reading, YAO IS NOT SHAQ. he will never ever (unless he goes Barry Bonds on us) shaq. play to his strengths.
Exactly. Yao is not Shaq. He doesn't have the upper body mass to push guys around. Although he has a dominant post game, he is still a finesse player. If he was like Shaq, he'd dunk every time, and easily win the Utah Jazz series for us. He'd have a much higher FG% than 51%. Shaq is easily more powerful, and dominant than Yao Ming, and will always be so. Yao is more of a power finesse player, but Shaq was pure power. So we won't see a Yao who will dunk consistently at a very high % because Yao still gets pushed around.
Couldn't agree with you more. Invert the floor and give Bonzi space in the post and make damn sure you let Stevie Novak spot up in the corner. There are VERY few 2's that can handle Bonzi when he posts.
I completely don't buy this logic. Yao is the most effective post player for the Rockets, and is only an average perimeter player. He does not have the ability to beat people off the dribble, which allows people to heavily pressure him, making it hard for him to shoot or pass. As good as Bonzi might be on his best day he is still not as good a post player as Yao. The reason that Sacto did this with Bonzi or say Denver does this with Melo is because Brad Miller and Marcus Camby have no post game. Yao is one of the two best post players in the NBA today (Duncan being the other). Why take him out to the perimeter, where he's less effective, and feed someone else who is not as good in the post?
again, what makes big men like dream and hakeem great outside the paint is that besides shooting the mid-range, they CAN DRIVE. do u think yao can do anything w/ the ball once he steps outside of 10ft? hakeem is one of the quickest big men EVER. duncan is pretty mobile himself. yao is like a statue outside of 10ft. keep him in the paint. the only thing yao needs to do to bring his offense to a new level is to consistently get low position. when he does that, he'll be so unstoppable it's ridiculous. again, we want yao to draw more double teams so it will freed tmac. yao outside the paint won't even draw a fly.
yao does not need to dunk or power like shaq. all i want is to get stronger in teh upper body so he can get better position. when he does that, he doesnt need to dunk. he's so tall that he'll take one dribble and do the min-hook shot or a little fallaway (not from 12-15 ft). that's all. no one is expecting a gazillino dunks.
Lol at some people thinking that Adleman's going to make Yao run the point from the three point line... That's not the idea, instead it's mixing up Yao's game to make our plays less predictable. Remember last season, when every possession it was get the ball to Yao, then to Tmac if that fails? I'm not against the idea of Yao occassionally playing point center at the high post, or spot up for wide open three's when TMac is driving or to let Bonzi post. That should be Yao's strength- his flexibility. He's not some one dimesional talent like Shaq. Hopefully Adleman can utilize Yao to his strengths.
If Yao can be even a marginal three point threat or hit the midrange jumpers consistently, it'd make his life soooo much easier. He wouldn't have to wrestle every single possession, and opens up a lot of space for Tmac to penetrate and Bonzi to post. He would be able to stay on the floor longer too.
forget about making it easier on yao...no great player has an easy path to greatness...hes got to continue to develop and it wont be easy...
Variety. This is not the offense we run every time down the court. What idiot wouldn't let Yao get his post touches? This could be ONE of our sets when James, Battier, Yao, Bonzi, and Novak play. Pulling the opposing center out to 15 to 18 feet speards the floor for everyone.
Sure, all great players went 1 on 5 throughout their whole careers. Nobody needs protection and rotation in defense, and nobody needs pick and roll or screens, and nobody needs open looks or easy shots. Otherwise, they are not great. BTW, what if they have 2 or more great players on the same team? Will Kareem attract defensive attention when he played with Magic? Oh I see, he must have played defense against him, to emphasize Magic's greatness, coz he can't have it easy.
moron...the game is not easy against the highest competition...you think earl campbell had it easy running up the gut...they didnt run him wide because it would be easier...you play to a mans strengths...and yaos strength is he has the best post game in the nba. you diminish him by stepping him out to the perimeter. other players make people better, but its not easy being great. nothing worthwhile is ever accomplished that is easy...its hard to win championships.
are u r****ded? why wud u want him shooting 3s. hes a center not a guard. maybe your confused with yao and the new chinese guy thts in the draft. wake up and stop drinking.
i don't agree with your post here. yao also has strength in mid range jumping. why make it hard for him, and make him get banged down low every single play, like jvg did. he just gets tired quickly. who knows if yao can shoot 3s or not. we don't know that yet. we both haven't seen him shoot enough to actualy know. if he can't shoot 3s, he can always move to the free throw line. you can still have lots of movement, down low.
Couldn“t agree more. I would like to see Yao take a three, from time to time, just for the entertainment value.
and EVERY other coach would love that. i'm sure duncan has the range and amare stoudemire. do u see them doing that? just b/c u have the range in practice, does not mean u should do it in a game. hell, we know tmac can make halfcourt shots, why not let him do that in a game for entertainment value? now that would spread the floor would it?
If you can hit 40% and you wind up wide open with the ball, why not? The original question in my thread was what do you think he can shoot out there, and what does he have to shoot to be effective? If he can drain them at a 40% clip, then I see no reason at all why he can't jack a wide open 3 ball.
