You can't make this up. http://www.tampabays10.com/sports/article.aspx?storyid=82218 Yankee fans give Bronx Cheer to blazing sun NEW YORK (AP) — It's not every day that a cloud gets the biggest cheers at Yankee Stadium. Fans showed their approval today when a cloud moved in front of the sun during the fifth inning of the Yankees-Royals game. They booed moments later when the sun returned. On a day when temperatures neared the century mark over much of the eastern United States, any relief was welcome. One woman visiting New York from Florida says it's been hotter in New York than it is back home for the whole week she's been there. The heat has also been wearing down tourists in Washington, D.C. A woman outside an art museum said, "We're going to get back on the Metro and go to the hotel and get into the pool." Schools in parts of the northeast and mid-Atlantic region have closed early because of the heat. The electric power grid for more than a dozen states says it expects to meet the demand, but it's also urging people to conserve.
Coming from a female, that is HILARIOUS. At 90°F : Houstonians - "WTF? Who turned on the AC? " New Yorkers - "I'm melting!!!!! "
When I first saw this thread, I didn't think they were actually booing the Sun, but this Sun below... I thought Jazz and Red Sox fans were nuts, but Yankee fans are pretty much putting a lock on #1.
But....at 50°F Southerners - Time to break out the winter gear Northerners - Great, I get to wear shorts!
I don't blame them. There's nothing like a big cloud to give you a break from the sun for a few minutes on a hot day.
I was in Chicago a couple of years ago about this time of year. They were talking on the news and in public at the Blues Festival about the heat wave. It was 85 degrees. My wife and I had come from Austin where it was close to 100. We were a bit chilly.
My girlfriend is from New York and she cannot STAND it when I wear shorts and sandals. She gets really mortified. It was extremely satisfying to hear her tell me how she saw NYers wearing sandals on the train over the weekend.
