I can read Chinese. I am not from China. I neither have a high view nor a low view of Chinese journalism. I've heard of (and I believe) bad journalistic pracitces in China. I also personally know a couple of jounalists from China who are people of integrity. so blindly believing or bashing a reporter simply because they are from a certain country is not wise. I don't know Yang Yi personally. But here are the facts about Yang Yi. He and Yao are friends. Yao has never come out and say Yang Yi lies or makes up anything about him. For whatever it's worth, I think that's some sort of evidence, especially in light of the fact that Yao is not a dumb person. Here's my take on Yang Yi's credibility. His style is definitely NOT what you call a reporter's style as in "reporting" something in a straight forword way. He mixes his own opinions with some conversational quotes. It's really hard to separate his opinions from real quote. Sometimes I believe he makes up conversations, not in the sense of fabricating thing that's not there, but using the style to loosely string together points he gets from Yao. My advice is that when he talks about the NBA, take him at about the level of Blinebery. When he talks about Yao's opinions, there is usually some truth in it, but don't take it as verbatim quotes.
I like yang's article and think he is right and serious. Please give more his links. How lucky that I can read Chinese!
Good post. I agree on most of it. The line of credibilty lies between that Yang Yi is Yao's friend, but not a Rockets insider. BTW, I hope people who bash Yang and say his articles aren't worth to be posted extend the same courtesy to Chad Ford.
Give me some prove or concreit evidence that this YangYi guy is Yao's close friend. Yao just feel sorry for him. Yao should step on his head and tell him to STFU. This guy sometime makes Yao look real bad.

everyone needs to relax.. I actually appreciate people taking the time to translate those articles for us.. if you dont agree or believe dont waste your time reading them. I enjoyed all the inside info people translated about Yao's first year and his relationship with LSmith and how SF3 helped him along.. it was great stuff. J
One thing I really dislike about this Yang Yi guy is he likes to insert his own opinion in his article and makes it sounds like it's Yao's opinion. He likes to write somwthing like "I believe/I think/I feel Yao ..." . I means WTF, if that is what Yao's view of the thing, then make it clear in the article and quote Yao's own word, or at least has the ball to say that it is Yao's opinion. Stop using vague words like "I think Yao..." or "I believe Yao..." etc. and let the reader guess it is Yao's opinion or your own opinion.
