Look, here's the bottom line, the people bashing on Yang Yi can't read Chinese, and couldn't pick Yang Yi out of a lineup if their life depended on it. It's like asking African bushmen to decide the winners of American Idol. Folks here hear a few rumors, and jump to random conclusions that they have no way of confirming themselves.

Yang Yi has never said Brent Barry had signed with the Rockets (at least, unless there's some mysterious article I haven't read/heard of). I was the person that pasted over th Sohu article that said Barry *had* signed, but at the time it was already obvious that it was just a mis-translated version of the Denver Post article about an offer being made.

Yang Yi has never said anything, that I've read, that has been proven factually incorrect. He tells us about Yao Ming's opinions, and people here who like to believe they know Yao Ming (based on watching the guy dribble a ball on the court) insist that Yang Yi is wrong. Well, I don't know. I don't know Yao Ming any better than any of you guys, but I do believe that Yao/Yang have a deep, personal friendship that has been on-going for most of this century.

Most of this century! Whoa! Wait a second. You make it seem so major. Couldn't you just say, "a couple years". ;)

You are wrong about one thing, this is the first time I write comment on YangYi in this BBS.

But your points are taken. It will also be the last time I comment on topics about his articles. I will just skip those threads from now on. Thanks

Yang Yi said "On July 4th moring (beijing time), Brent Barry decided to take the offer from Houston".
He used the word "decided to take".

That's a mistranslation from Fanball. Barry "received", not accepted" the offer.

There is no reason to be particularly harsh on this reporter YangYi. Some of them make up stories, but at least they are better than those reporters who cannot think for themselves. Jim Grey reported we left Cat unprotected to Bobcat draft! What a joke is that?

no he didn't. At the time the draft list wasn't allowed to be made public so Jim Grey said that this trade could be consumated once the expansion draft ended when all the players involved in the deal excluding Steve and Tracy had not been picked by the Bobcats.

according to the writer, he thinks Yao would surpass Shaq in 3-5 years if Shaq stays in West. wow, what a smart prediction? Yao beats Shaq after Shaq retired at 38?

that's also how i interpreted it.

there is absolutely no evidence of Yang Yi ever making false assertions. some people are being bigoted about Chinese journalism, which, while it doesn't uphold the highest standards, does not deserve to be dismissed blindly.

YAO: Hu Weidong said your pretty good at this stuff .

YANGYI: Oh yeah . Hu was a fun project . I enjoyed working with him.

YAO : You don't have your own camera .

YANGYI : Uh no . Look at this . Okay yeah this looks good and I like what your wearing .

    YAO: I feel fat .

YANGYI: No, no . You're stoked . The camera loves stokedness . Look were not going to do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable . The key word is tasteful . Now I want you to relax and have fun because your a fun guy . All right let's do it . Okay come on . Feel the beat . Feel the beat . You know you got some real strong pecks but it's hard to tell under that T-shirt .

YAO : Well do you want me to take it off ?

    YANGYI : I don't know it's up to you .

YAO: Do you think it would be better if I did ?

YANGYI : It might be . I mean whatever you want .

    YAO: ALL RIGHT !!

The point was not about 36 points. It was about 0 assists. The article said JVG wanted YAO to shoot more and pass less in Rockets.

For all those who want proof that Yang Yi is wrong, I ask you to give me some proof he's right. Find proof that what he said is accurate and not overblown.

Guess what. There is no proof. It is his word against anyone who would challenge him. Period.

So, the next time you tell those of us skeptical about his articles to "shut your mouth" or to prove that he is wrong, you better be willing to start demonstrating where his has been right in the past or you are as much an apologist of Yang Yi as someone else might be a basher.

My personal OPINION is that his reporting is about at the level of gossip columnist. It doesn't mean that he is wrong 100% of the time. It just means that we have reason to be wary when he writes a story.
