About the best thing I can say about it was that it was an article on Yao. Zero new insight. For me, not thought-provoking at all.

you missed out on the fact that Yao as the first Chinese in the NBA did all he can and enough in my eyes
much more than expected which renders the article spot on

It's a great article. A huge loss indeed.

On a side not, I just worked out with Shaq at 24 Fitness down in Pearland. He was a cool cat and man is he a beast.

The Rockets did play Yao too much, probably since about 05-06. This past season I give some of the credit to McGrady. If his lazy ass was on the floor more, Yao could've rested a bit more.

It should have said a giant loss for the Rockets! Seriously, losing a player like Yao that attracts millions of fans around the world would always dampen the excitement of a season. He does so much on and off court that his value would now be truly felt.

Nice to c a big sport site give props to Yoa even call him a hall of famer which i think is a bit hard to say .. atleast he needs a ring first ..

I dont think there is anything wrong with playing for china .. its 100% theyre right to play him as much as they want ..

he played the least minutes in like 4-5 seasons of around 32-33 minutes per game. if that's a lot, well, what's the point of having yao then? even rik smits played 30 minutes a game in his prime.

He changed everything for the NBA and David Stern, for China and the Far East. Together, they all conspired to use him, wear him out and ultimately toss him aside.
^^^^^^^ 3 things i want to say about these sentences. or maybe more. I tend to get carried away :D
    1. Damn straight he helped out David Stern but that selfish fool just let other teams beat him up with this being the result.

    2. I agree he did do alot for china and the far east not just by entertaining them on the court but with his charity work. :)

    3. 'wear him out and ultimately toss him aside' WTF?! Is this yao's obituary?!

I highly doubt that this is career ending. Sure its possible but not likely. Whats likely is that he will come back but maybe not avg 20/10 a game or play 40mins a game. What we all have faith in while hoping and believing will happen is the Big Z scenario where he comes back even better than before.

    Get well Yao.

That's stupid. McGrady is worthy of criticism, so when you do it, pick something good to criticize him about.

While you're here, blame the invisible backup center that we didn't have that could contribute decent minutes every night, and please don't mention Deke, they weren't going to play him those kind of minutes. While you're also here, blame whoever you want on the staff for not getting him a backup so he could play less. Also, blame Yao for not wanting to come out of games, and Rick for mis-managing his minutes...Oh, yeah, and Yao playing during the offseasons...and...

    ...the list goes on.

"A lot of NBA players and commentators treated Yao with disdain upon his arrival, an overhyped stiff they promised to embarrass. Truth be told, there was a racial element to the criticism. Perhaps they didn’t want to believe an Asian could become an NBA star. Perhaps they feared an impending wave of Chinese 7-footers to gobble up jobs. Whatever the genesis, the criticisms of Yao pushed beyond legitimate basketball doubts and were nasty and needlessly personal."

    interesting point.

Before Yao, NBA games were not televised in China as much as they are today according to many sources. TV viewership definitely dramatically increased since Yao joined the Rockets.

I'm willing to bet money of the following.

I will be money that Yao will end up spending a majority of his rehab in China.

Z had the surgery when he was younger than yao and plus his bone is not as fragile as Yao and Z weight a lot less. Yao is fragile and he is heavy and much older than Z when he had his sugery.
