The thing is most of the people on that list are good buddies from the Olympics.

I bet you Wade, LeBron and Bosh weren't the only ones that conspired to play with each other.

If we get Melo, who's to say CP3 or Williams don't follow him. I think there was a story that CP3 would go where ever Melo went during Melo's wedding.

But you said you didn't want to argue, but you posted a list anyway...lists bring arguments...you know that.

i just think it would change the way we would build around him as opposed to hurt our ability to do so. We would build through free agency bc other guys would want to play w Melo along w AB and Scola (im obviously making the assumption that K MArtin would be the key piece we trade)....not to mention, dont we still have our own first rounders the next couple of years in addition to the Knicks? I know one year we swap and its top 5 protected....and the next year we get it (top 1 protected)....but even if we give up the Knicks 1st rounder, we still have one to use as a building block or to trade....additionally, our picks would be somewhere in the 20's....maybe even as high as 28 so you arent going to get a franchise changer at that point in the draft

Look DD, this is a new era in the NBA whether you like it or not.

Having a guy like Melo automatically increases our odds of attracting another free agent, maybe CP3?

Yao is just not an attractive ploy anymore like in the T-Mac situation.

This is a league where superstars want to play with each other, not against each other.

Sad fact, but the truth hurts.

A core built around CP3 and Melo would challenge for the title for the next 5 years.

So a one year aberation coming into a CBA where the league is looking at adding a FRANCHISE tag makes it a new day in the NBA?

    Come on....a new day?

I agree about Yao not being an attractive ploy, it is why I don't believe for one second that Melo will come to Houston, I think it is 100% leverage by him and his people.

Anyway....I know you guys want him...........we are all Rox fans....let's just see what happens.

You didnt seemed so concerned earlier when told Randolph is/could be looking for a big contract or payday next year, saying

What am I missing? You cannot be afraid of paying achievers(last time I checked, Carmelo has achieved more than Mr. Randolph). Carmelo will get the contract he deserves when that time comes. So you're saying it's ok to pay Randolph and he'll get whatever money he deserves but Carmelo shouldn't get the money he deserves or won't live up to the money he gets??

'Melo can't be a lead/alpha dog because he does nothing outside of scoring but I believe you said or believe Aaron Brooks can become one for this team? Please tell me what Aaron Brooks does outside of scoring? (Brooks: 20 ppg, 3 reb, 5 asst last year, 13 ppg, 2 reb, 4 asst for career; Anthony: 28 ppg, 6 reb, 3 asst last year, 25 ppg, 6 reb, 3 asst for career). Sounds like just about a wash to me but Brooks can become that alpha or lead dog? What am I missing here?

Obviously we'll agree to disagree but you are right, we'll see what happens. I won't cry though like A_Sidd will if we don't get him :p If we can get him, great. If not, that's fine too.

well im always for getting a more talented player. i just don't want to handcuff our cap while liquidating all of our assets. or IOW, how we got tmac from orlando. with 2 max contracts it took the team years to build a decent supporting cast and by that point he didnt live up to his salary anymore.

Roy hasn't gotten his team half as far as Melo.

I can't believe I wasted 5 seconds of my life reading that post.

But, but Roy is clean cut and has never been in any type of questionable behavior!

    Oh...wait.

He was in a rap video that glorified drug use, not that I have a problem with it, but someone like DD would.

look we are NOT gutting our team if we just had to let kmart + picks go for melo. that's a GREAT deal.

now if we had to give up 2 starters for instance, there's no way i do this deal b/c melo is not a transcendent player. you only do that for the super-duper stars and there's really only 4 (bron, kobe, wade, durant).

but melo IS a superstar in this league. he CAN take over games. he CAN carry a team on his back for long periods of time. and he CAN score v. any defense. and his team has made the playoffs EVERY year with his as a constant. that's a superstar.

kevin martin is an efficient scorer, and that's something valuable that you have to sacrifice to get a superstar.

we do not have that guy that we can just give the ball to when times get tough. yao is supposed to be that guy, but he may never regain it. we have to treat him like a role player now. brooks and martin are very nice offensive players, but nobody double teams them on a consistent basis.

Thanks for spelling out some of Adrian Dantley's accomplishments. :)

The funny thing is that I only brought him up because Anthony reminded me of Dantley. I hated Dantley when he was playing for the team I despise the most, the Jazz. He used to kick our butts with depressing regularity while playing his 7 seasons for Utah. You might stop the other guys, but Dantley would get his. Speaking of butts, Dantley had a big arse that he threw around and used to knock the crap out of other players going for a rebound, or getting position. He could fill it up and board. (Carl Herrera could have so much fun with Dantley if he was playing today, lol!) He once made 28 free throws in a game! Freakin' amazing.

I can't understand not considering him a "superstar." What makes a "superstar" better than a "star?" Winning championships? He won Olympic Gold, but no NBA championship. If that were the criteria, a large chunk of the Hall of Fame would be empty. You'd have to take AD out of there, for sure. Would that make sense? Of course not. The guy racked up big numbers during his career, leading the league in scoring twice, and was a six time All Star. He was certainly considered one of the top players in the league at the time. During his college career, he was pivotal in Notre Dame ending UCLA's 88 game winning streak, which was an amazing accomplishment if anyone here remembers that UCLA team. In other words, the guy was a winner you loved to hate.

How can someone say, "He was just a star?"

super-duper star - basically top 3-4 players in this league; transcendent players (bron, wade, durant, kobe)

superstars - basically guarantee a playoff spot (cp3, deron, howard, melo...)

all-stars - very good players who puts up the stats, but doesn't guarantee a playoff spot (pierce, joe johnson, kg...)

stars - good players with name recognition (ray allen, jkidd)

    average players

    scrubs

Yeah Martin is efficient we get that. It's been driven into our heads probably about 300000000x on this board. But does Kevin Martin demand a double team? What teams are like "man we GOTTA shut down K-mart tonight he's going for 50!!!!"?????

Because Melo does command the double team and any given night he can go for 50. That is the difference.

Carmelo can go for 50 any given night? Really? Do you know how many times Anthony has scored 50pts in his career? Once. He scored exactly 50 vs the Knicks on 11/27/09.

Interestingly Kevin Martin's career high is also 50 (4/1/09 vs GS). Martin also had a 48pt game vs Memphis (11/02/09).

Anthony does indeed draw double teams, the problem is that instead of finding the open man he still insists on attacking the double team. That's why he leads the league in missed shots, had his shot blocked more than all but one player in the entire NBA and only averages a little over 3 assists per game.

Most guys who draw double teams make the teams pay by finding the open man for easy scores. Since Anthony won't give up the ball when double teamed it just means that he's trying to score on multiple players. That's not really a positive.

Yeah, but when he has possible teammates like brooks, martin, scola and Yao.. (depends who gets traded) He will back them to score over Nene, Kenyon martin and Jr smith (with the exception of Billups..)

Hmm. Let's see. Anthony average 30.7 pts last year while shooting .464 from the field and also grabbed 8.5 rebounds a game and dished out 3.2 assists.

Kevin Martin last season average 20 pts while shooting .435 from the field grabbed 2.9 rebounds and dished the ball out 2.3 times a game as is definitely more of an injury risk. (it is also arguable to say K-mart also played on a worse team boosting his stats and yes this argument is applicable because all the people saying the same thing about Courtney Lee's 13 ppg on the nets)

I'll take the bet of Melo scoring 50 on any given night than K-mart.
