FYI, I'm well aware of your man crush on Melo. I didn't say he wasn't good. I still say Durant will be better if he's not now. That doesn't mean I'm completely against a Melo deal.

Did you see Durant helping his summer league team? Yes, he's leading by example which is huge in my book. How many superstars did you see helping their teams this summer? Probably no one other than Durant.

Did you see Durant dominate in the worlds when all other superstars chose to stay home? Dude is a stud, a winner and will get better.

Like I said, not against Melo, didn't say he has no game, he's a great scorer. I'd embrace a trade "if" we don't give up key rotation players.

FYI I've been watching the NBA before you were born, so ease up a little cowboy. I'm just saying.

Unlike LeBron, Wade or Bosh, Melo didn't have a lame ass excuse for not being a part of Team USA. He was too busy having a wedding this summer, so that should be a good excuse for not wanting to play. LeBron, Bosh, and Wade didn't play because of what? Contract issues? LMAO! There were no issues because they planned this all along!

Also, who's to say Melo won't get any better? He's still reletively young and hasn't even reached his prime yet.

Another thing, Melo has proven that he is a winner. It's no suprise that the Nuggets sucked before they drafted him, but soon after, they've made the playoffs every single season that he's been on that team, even reaching the WCF.

Last season was such a wreck, no one could have gotten through it. Martin was injured, Birdman was injured, there coach was in and out of the lineup with a life threating illness. Among other things, they had JR Smith who killed his friend and was a real distraction on and off the court.

And they still managed to make the playoffs! He led that team there, they could have easily folded.

    ASidd_1990,

I'm not arguing that Melo is not a winner or a good player. I'm saying Durant is or will be better and he continues to work to add to his game.

I like Melo as a scorer, but between the two it's Durant all day.

Did you see the poll in the dish? It's a blowout for Durant. It doesn't make Melo any less of a player, it just is what it is.

Why are we bringing in Kevin Durant in this thread again? This is almost akin to tinman's penchant for bringing up old Rockets players that sometimes has nothing to do with the thread he posts in.

No one is stupid enough to think that Durant isn't already or won't be better than Carmelo. The fact is Anthony is up for grabs while Durant will most likely retire as a Thunder.

You should read the thread before you attack me. I didn't bring Durant into it. It came up here so I chimed in. And yes ASidd does think Melo is better. That got me going.

Choose your words wisely and know what you are actually talking about before lumping me in with others.

i think DD brought in durant as a way to hold Melo to a standard that is obviously unattainable saying if Melo isnt like Durant than the rockets should pass on him to try to lessen the 'perceived value' of melo

well yeah of coruse Melo isnt as good as Durant, not many players are but there arent many players better than Melo, just so happens that of the few that are better than him, Durant is one of them.

but the issue is silly if durant was available of course the rockets would go after durant first over melo...but durant is and probably will never be available so lets have the team focus on getting the star player who is.

Exactly, thank you. Agree completely. I'm not one to think we don't get Melo because he's not Durant.

I'm good with Melo, my first thought is I would prefer to have Martin and Melo.

The Rockets need a superstar, no doubt.

Can't mess with logic... Good post. Talk about the players that are available.. Not ones that you could only dream about.

    Kind of....

The point is that you go hard after players like Durant, because they are the kinds you need to build a team around.

If one is not available, then you try to draft or develop your own, or trade for a young guy that might get there etc.

But, IMO, you don't go after players that THINK they are as good as Durant, but don't play like it, and don't act like it.

I want the Rockets to win, so does everyone else on here....

I just don't believe that you get value out of players like Melo, they are the type that seem to be more interested in being famous than in winning basketball games.

I want a player who BURNS to win, that is all he thinks about, how can I get better, how can I dominate the other guy, how can I lead my team....

Those are the guys I would like Morey to target, and whether that is a proven guy like Durant, or a young possible superstar like Blake Griffin.....that would be the direction I would like to see them go...

Sometimes it is better to pass....

    Melo is not one.

His wife wants a big market city, that is where he will end up if he's smart.

A married man should always try and keep peace in his home.

IMO the best way to get a superstar is to draft one. the only problem is you have to suck for a while. i'd rather do that then be stuck in perpetual mediocrity.

Name me 10 wing players better than Carmelo Anthony and I will concede that he is not a superstar.

Until then, top 10 player out of what like 100s... is superstar status to me.

Dude, I've been watching the rockets for the past 14 years (ever since I had a good memory of what was going on in my life). We have actually gotten worse over the last two years. And the reason why?

    DEFENSE.

And you don't think I watched Rockets basketball in the past few years, well let me give you a little insight of what I think.

The past 3 years, besides last season, we had a legitimate shot blocker behind Yao. But last year we were atrocious on the defensive end. If you look at the past two champions they could actually play on both sides of the ball. The Lakers are probably the most balanced defensive/offensive team in the league while the Celtics won because of defense.

Right now we can only score the ball. That's not a recipe for success in the NBA. Until we find a solid shot blocking back up center, we will then move into the upper echelon of teams in the NBA and Daryl Morey knows this. Why do you think he tried to acquire Tyson Chandler and now Erik Dampier?

This team is not ready to contend, but we are a piece or two away from contention.

i honestly dont think there are 5 players PERIOD, at any position, that are better than Carmelo if u take in account his all around game

I would say Lebron, Kobe, Wade and MAYBE CP3 are better all around...and thats it

The only problem with holding out till 'Durant' type players is they DO NOT BECOME ATTAINABLE. The fact that a top 10 player comes out, you have to pounce or wait till you draft your own.

(Lebron doesn't really apply because he most likely had that plan together and no other team really had a chance)

The next time Daryl Morey takes calls on a radio show I'm going to call and ask "Daryl, there is a lot of talk that the Rockets are pursuing Carmelo Anthony. My question is this - does it weigh on you at all that DaDakota points out that he is vehemently opposed to any trade for Melo at least 200 times per day? If not, why? I'm going to hang up and listen."
