What are the odds of the Rockets leaking this to somehow boost Brooks' trade value/generate interest? Pretty high I'd say.
Been saying this since the days before the McGrady trade and believed the same about the "leak" of Yao being on the block: Rockets using the media, brother.
"conversation went nowhere".....i don't think they'd leak that out to get teams interested in Brooks? Brooks is clearly better than Flynn, so its a given that wouldnt tempt houston. It would have made more sense to simply leak out that they called about Brooks and imply Rubio could be involve or talked about.
Rights to Rubio Ridnour Telfair Flynn Why does Kahn keep playing musical chairs with point guards? That's 4 PGs already.
Screw Kahn. He took the #5 and #6 draft pick that year and somehow managed to end up with jack squat for it. For his penis envy of other GM's he can wallow in the feces-ridden bed of an organization he's made for as many years as it takes before Stern wakes up and decides to contract his sorry team.
Wojnarowski is the very same responsible for the Yao rumors too. Minnesota would have no gain in spreading that rumor and It does seem like a pretty random leak especially since the “Conversation went nowhere.” Meanwhile, we get to presume that we got offered a former No. 6th pick for the MIP of last year.
Flynn doesn't suck. Brooks is just much better. Brooks is a starter in the NBA and Kahn probably thought the Rockets might not re-sign Brooks so he offered a quality backup PG.
Maybe Kahn was the leak, he's reportedly out there puffing up Flynn's value: http://twitter.com/jwquick "Wolves GM David Kahn says pregame that he thinks PG Flynn will be an All-Star one day"
Scola, Brooks, and the rights to swap picks in 2011 or the Knicks 2012 pick for the rights to Rubio and Love.
This is definitely the beginning of something, but I'm sure it's more of a negotiating tactic. No way Morey wants to stand pat with the way this team has played this year. Things are going to get very interesting from now till the deadline and I'll reiterate what I said weeks ago, something big on the tradefront will happen with the Rockets.
Doesn't Lowry have more value than Brooks? He's obviously not nearly as talented a scorer as is AB, but he plays like a point guard and can actually play some defense.
Well... there are various ways to go when you do such things. If the Rockets indeed leaked the Yao-trade stuff, which I, much like Clutch, believe they did, they certainly went a different route, 'asking' for more than Yao is probably worth (young players + pick(s) + expirings). Obviously Brooks is a lot better than Flynn, but the fact that Brooks is due for a payday and that you might have to overpay to retain him after this season, decreases his value quite a bit. Flynn isn't anything great, which is why the talks went nowhere. But if you leak information like that, there's a good chance that other teams that are interested in Brooks call or think about calling you to make a "counter"-offer. Such an starting-offer would would at the very least be 'better' than the Minnesota offer. Of course all of that is speculation on my part.
