You have not been watching the Cavs this season if you think LeBron doesn't play good D. He has become one of the finest defenders at his position this season. And has Kobe even managed to beat one good team in the playoffs without Shaq by his side? If not, then its a legitimate point to bring up in LeBron's favor.
Lebron Vs Kobe Head to Head this season: Cavaliers: 2 wins Lakers: 2 Losses Lebron: 37 ppg, 9.5 rebs, 4.5 asts, .5 blks, 1.5 stls 45.9% FG, 12% 3P, 73% FT Kobe: 27 ppg, 8.5 rebs, 5.5 asts, 1.5 blks, .5 stls 41.8% FG, 0% 3P, 69% FT ---- Um, I think I'll take Lebron.
Alright, LeBron is playing some defense this year, but he's still way behind Kobe in that department. James is by no means a shut down defender...Kobe is. In that aspect of the game Kobe trumps LeBron and it's not close. Detroit imploded, I think that's pretty clear to see. LeBron had a good few games, no doubt, but Detroit really beat themselves. When Kobe and the Lakers get past the first round (unless they face the Rockets!), this argument will be put to rest. In the finals, San Antonio showed just how good LeBron and his Cavs are: good enough for a big broom to show them the door.
Wait, the kobe a$$ licker will say kobe didn't have Gasol at his side then to beat Lebron's Cavs.....
this is the dumbest thing i've read in a long time. LeBron is a great passer and should never be told to stop that part of his game. And maybe you missed it, but in LA he played Kobe on defense down the stretch and won that game for Cleveland. Who cares how he gets it done? I wish t-mac would take the type of shots lebron takes on a consistent basis. He understands closer is better...
BronBron has outplayed Kobe this season when they went head to head. If they followed the same criterias they did with awarding Nash and Dirk Mvps then Kobe deserves it more then BronBron because his team has the better record in the tougher division. I would choose Kobe if I wanted to try to win a championship right now since he's a proven veteran. BronBron definitely for the future.
LEBRON IS THE BEST KOBE IS THE BEST Either one wins the MVP it is well deserved So obviously that means one thing and one thing only......Nash is gonna win it again for no apparent reason..........Or maybe Choking Dirk But seriously I want Lebron to win because I personally think when its all said and done he will be the best to ever pick up a basketball, but If Kobe wins MVP he deserves it just as much as Lebron.
You dismiss that but if the numbers were in Kobe's favor the numbers alone would have proven Kobe's superiority. Everyone has their mind made up that Kobe should get an MVP for career achievement and cant stand that cocky young kid Lebron who was handed the league is outperforming everyone "according to plain". Not saying its you...its almost ironic that Kobe of all people is receiving support from everyone. Its like people just got tired of hating him.
As a fan and player of the Legendary sport called BASKETBALL: I must say it GREATLY OFFENDS ME that people can talk bad about LEBRON JAMES, or KOBE They are the two best players in the NBA and both are deserving of the MVP trophy. But lebron is more deserving
TMac isn't built like a linebacker that can flick off defenders like boogers while he drives to the basket. TMac will actually feel the pain while HGH James looks for contact like Earl Campbell running downhill.
Kobe IS MVP, he's on the best team in the West, he's been due an MVP award, fantastic closer and great numbers all around. He's hitting everything. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/3lofoN5g2FI"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/3lofoN5g2FI" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
LeBron takes on the challenge of guarding the opposing team's best perimeter player, and he's done a very good job in the games I've seen. In terms of one on one defenders at the SG/SF position, I would say he's top 5 right now. He actually did a very good job down the stretch on Kobe in the last game they played each other, in fact. I believe it's much closer than you think.
I won't get too much into this...both guys are deserving. But it's very clear which team would be competing for the #1 draft pick in the lottery if their best player was missing...even though they're in the much weaker conference. You know how some people up until this year thought Yao was still a finesse player? He doesn't post up much, mostly a jump shooter...outdated observations from a few years ago. I think many people's perceptions of LBJ are just as outdated. The fact that some people still think LBJ doesn't play defense or isn't clutch or is still a one-dimensional-only-drives-to-the-hoop-on-pure-strength player has not watched many Cavs games. BTW, I think Lebron is 8th in assists in the league. That's better than 22 other point guards...on a team lackluster on the offensive side. One other thing, I think the Cavs are around .66 against Western teams (I haven't looked in awhile though).
Nice read, Kelly Dwyer. I disagree but this writer (and poster on this BBS for all the newbies) does a nice job of making his point while being as objective as humanly possible given the toss-up nature of this topic. My thoughts..... Kobe is still the best player in the game. He has been for years and for years he's been deprived of an MVP award. I really think the fact that the league's premier player being without an MVP award combined with the presumption that a 23-year-old LBJ will have plenty of other opportunities will go a long way in securing this distinction for Kobe. I don't need to get into the "Kobe plays out West" and "What if you swapped LeBron with Kobe" arguments. Those topics get beaten to death easily. Both are deserving and i'll be fine with either one of them winning it. Just so long as KG doesn't win the damn thing i'll be fine with either outcome. If Kevin freaking Garnett ends up with more MVP awards than Dream i'll be sick. Nash was already difficult to swallow. Don't try to force feed me a guy that's been out of the first round 1/13 years a second MVP award.
Lebron is the better player and deserves the MVP. I would give it to Kobe though because this isn't an ideal vacuum. You work with the same rules and the same system that has always applied. Young guys get screwed, crappier teams get screwed, older guys who haven't won it get their lifetime achievement MVP award. That's why Charles got his in '93, Karla initially got his first one, and why Kobe at age 29 deserves to get his first one this year. I'm just glad I can say I watched the primes of the three best swingmen in NBA history (when it's all said and done) in MJ, Kobe, and Lebron.
