Its not like we are a contender with him. We probably win one or two games more. I doubt that personally. Rockets will move on.
So what are your thoughts on signing a player who left: - The city he grew up in - The city were he went to college - The team where he just won a championship to come to a lesser team so he could have a "bigger role," in other words, to pad his stats. What are your thoughts on that?
People say a lot of things to justify being scorned. How dare he want to get payed more than what we were offering. Good riddance ... there are more of you where you came from I've read. Some are still mad at what he did in the Lakers series. If he was the star, I would still be mad too as I hold them to higher standards as leaders of the team but Wafer is just a role player and he apologized. For a role player Wafer was a great surprise and the spark off the bench the team had been lacking for a long time. So if he is so easy to replace then how come it took us forever to get someone to do the things he did last year at the 2 guard spot off the bench? Hopefully the second round shooting guards Morey picked in the draft can be a surprise too. It would be a nice start to their career.
I dun really have a problem with a young player or a guy who has a track record of 4 or 5 seasons wanting to expand his role with a lesser team. At the end of their careers alot of players want to win first and go to championship caliber teams. Its a priority thing. Dang. You mean Ariza. Ok He is still young but mature. He knows what he wants and he knew without him the Lakers still are contenders but personally he wants to go somewhere where he can expand his game. I don't know it's all about stats because he signed what 5 years? thats a long term secured contract which is based upon agreement between him and the organization that he will become one cornerstone of the franchise. Either as a blue collar worker or a borderline allstar- yes I said that. It was not only about money but a bigger role. Everything I heard involving Von was money. I think an organization with a willing owner and a slick son of gun in DMorey was a good reason tool.
If Von couldn't act like an adult and play within the team in the NBA, he's going to have a hell of a time in Europe where it's ALL about the team and everyone else understands that.
And when he goes over there and succeeds and comes back getting a bigger contract in the NBA, what will people say then? I think the guaranteed $$$$$ will go a long way to his angst about playing team ball. DD
That's a very good point that is being overlooked by many. Euroball may not be a good match for Von's skillset. Should he go there and struggle, his career/future in the nba would be on shaky ground.
bye bye miss spanakopita pie, DD's still waitin like he's vivi and his tears have run dry, and we gonna pour out some liquor now maybe whiskey n rye, singin this'll be the day this thread dies, this'll be the day this thread dies!
Its a fluke.... I keed but it will be interesting in what area he succeeds apart from scoring and scoring
I realize that we're both just throwing out possible scenarios, but mine happens to be supported by things we know to be true because we've been witness to them. Your outcome is much more of a "what if", based on very little tangible evidence, if any at all. That is, unless you consider your own hopes and dreams to be tangible evidence. As KingCheetah said, let's cross that bridge when/if we come to it.
Then he will have made a brilliant career move. I honestly don't think Von has the court vision to be a creator/facilitator. He is, imo, JR Smith-lite. Have any gunners been successful in Europe?
I'm still amazed at the disfavor Waver seems to fallen under to some on this board. He did help the Rockets last season didn't he? I don't live in Houston so is there something the local sports scene knew about him that the rest of us nationaly didn't? Isn't he the same guy now as he was going into last season when everyone was so high on him? A young, raw, athletic offensive player with some potential, but also some personality issues? Right now it sounds like people are just mad that he took a job that paid more. I can't see how playing for Olympiakos is a negative for him.
I think it's a big loss for the Rockets not to have VW suit up in Rockets uniform this coming season. But better yet Morey should have a back up plan. I wonder if ESPN will make splash news about it.
it was either that or not get a chance to see taylor and the skill set he brings to the rockets. Good luck wafer, always liked you but im ready for a change....now let's do what it takes to get amare
Good for Von. It will be no problem to replace him. Over the last decade the Rockets have had dozens and dozens of athletic, efficient scoring shooting guards who love to attack the rim at every opportunity and who shoot the 3 at a high percentage. Their names escape me at this moment but there were many
