Actually, I was just speaking hypothetically. You know, just throwing some random numbers out there. I didn't realize those were Battier's exact numbers from Game 7 against the Lakers. Thanks for pointing that out.
Great for Von. Wishing him all the best. Now, We can finally move on and concentrate on how the team can improve.
You're so full of it. If that wasn't directed at Battier, than the statement you made would just be some random statement that has no meaning. Either you looked it up, or just remember all of Battier's numbers from bashing him so much. Elie averaged 5.8 points and 9.1 points during our championship years. Some players bring more to the table than just points.
good for von. he should have a great time with all the money over in europe. nice to be young, rich, doing what you love, and being able to travel overseas.
Nice deal for Von. I wish him the best. The Rockets will live and continue their forward march to becoming an elite team.
More like the Orlando Magic of Europe, probably the 2nd or 3rd best team. But this may put them over the top.... Especially with Kleiza coming over..
Yeah, his Battier hating is well documented in other threads. It's actually kind of disconcerting. Either Battier ran over his dog or he bet against Duke when they won the championship.
VSpan plays for Panathinaikos, which has won the Greek league title 7 years in a row. Olympiacos finished 2nd last season, but with Kleiza, Childress, and Wafer they'll most likely be the odds on favorite this year.
I don't think you need to replace somebody like that. Find other ways to score instead. RA's system when it's executed right it will provide scoring opportunities for everybody. Some guys sound like we just lost Scola or Brooks, proven winners. As much as I like part of his game I don't think he is that good yet. What can I say the organization made the decision to not keep him under any circumstances and develop others. Roster spots are limited and I still think we should get a big. What's the fascination with wing players anyway?
Gosh darn it, I'm shooting blanks today. I give up, I just need to find a Greek feed of ESPN and catch up already.
What makes people think he's going to respect the coaches there and the complete team-first attitude? I bet he blows up, sits on the bench, and is released. I wish him luck though, hope he tears it up over there honestly. But with how Euro teams emphasize TEAM first over ALL, they won't like his chucking and not passing the ball.
I'll admit upfront that I was not a big Von fan since his meltdown in the playoff game; unforgivable and inexcusable, regardless of the justifications offered here by many. Raven hit the nail on the head on the first page: not a single NBA team believed Wafer's negatives were worth the risk for the price he was asking. Even conceding all the "positives" so obsessively posted by his supporters, his "negatives" and apparently other "intangibles" scared away NBA teams. Otherwise, don't you think Von would be signing with an NBA team?
i like von hes awesome but how is his game (ball hogging) gonna translate to the european style. hopefully he learns how to pass out there
I think this and the economic situation has to do something with it. Fact, one season does not make him a star and wing players are a dime of a dozen. Von has made the right choice for himself and I congratulate him on his signing.
That's why I think it was a blessing in disguise. Now he'll be forced to play team ball or he'll sit on the bench. An NBA team, had one signed him, would have likely dealt with his lack of passing, because he provided an offensive spark. It's been noted on this BBS before that the Rockets coaching staff were often frustrated by Von's inability to learn the plays. Thus, they just told him to attack the basket and be aggressive. That won't happen in Europe, especially not at the expense of the entire team.
