DD is the primary cause of most of the Wafer bashing, I think. Just like DD was the primary cause of most of the Spanoulis bashing.
we can say von has the heart of a champion. he didnt wanna languish in the woods of the Rockets with no playoff appearances in sight. instead he went to a greek powerhouse title contender where he can help win a championship. talk about wanting to win.
You add in a low basketball IQ, a ME first attitude, and poor defensive skills and he becomes very easy to replace. In all honesty, I would have liked to see the Rockets bring him back at a minimal price. I think this Euro-League stint might be a blessing in disguise. The biggest detriment to Von's NBA career is his childish attitude, and 'shoot first, think later' mindset. At least now he'll be forced to play within the team concept or he won't play at all. Oh, one thing. I continuously see you say that we're losing Von for nothing. What exactly did you expect the Rockets to get in return for Von? Just curious as to what DD the GM would pay for a hard to replace player like him
I agree with you on the last part. Von will be missed somewhat but I think we can shift some of the focus to other positions than the SG spot such as Aaron scoring more, Ariza moving the ball, slashing, hitting the 3, more post up moves of Scola and some Andersen Aussie Shakes.
Yeah, right after I clicked "Submit Reply" I noticed that wording was a little awkward. Like W22 said, I meant "from this point onwards", but I'm sure you knew that already...
Don't waste your time. I wonder how many teams wish they wouldve given JR Smith the time when chicago was trying to give him away. I wonder how many teams wish they wouldve kept billus when he was a a "journeyman." If he had put that kind of production on a losing team, he's a chucker on a losing team, but he provided a offensive spark to a limited offensive team and yet its easy to replace. Ok, we will see how easy or how many points a team minus tracy, yao, artest, and now wafer can produce. I hope i'm wrong as much as the next man, but not only is this year going to be a struggle, but we will have a very, very hard time replacing wafer and his youthfulness and ability to grow.
I remember people saying the same thing about Landry and how we don't need him. Rocket's fans will turn on anyone including yao and tmac in a heartbeat.
Well considering he apparently had meetings with other teams I think teams were interested. They just didn't want him at the price he was asking for.
In the past Dada has chosen to believe that instead of Wafer's attitude being a character flaw and critical reason on why the Rockets showed no interest, it was Adelman's fault as a coach that he could not control or work around Wafer's attitude.
I agree. I'm happy for Von and sad for the Rockets. Von had his flaws but his game really suited the Rockets second team offense run by Lowry. He is getting a lot more money (euros to dollars and more of them to boot) and the money is tax free IIRC, which really makes those euros sweet. The downside is the wilder nature of FIBA games. The fans throw more than ice and beer. If Von Wafer can control his temper in that atmosphere, he can do it when he returns to the NBA.
I can't say it for others. Personally I usually don't turn on players drafted by the organisation. At the end of the day it is a business where talent is aquired, sold or traded. The goal is to improve your roster talentwise and don't give up too much.
