We will see. Explosive compared to guys in the pac 10. The NBA is home to the best athletes in the world especially at the 2 and 3 position. We will see how he stacks up athletically.

It is interesting to note that Morey drafted two players with the highest verticals in the draft (38.5" and 37.5").

Tyler is also the second strongest SG (and even SF) after James Harden.

Chase unfortunately is one of the "fattest" in the draft (10.0% body fat)

There's no real benefit to having a real low body fat % unless you're a bodybuilder. The marker is under 14%, if it is, it's considered good.

If the comment was directed at Budinger's competition in the PAC-10 it would have said as much. I'm sure the comment was a comparison among all NCAA basketball players, so there's no need to reading between the lines for something that isn't there.

Of course, 10% is awesome for just about everyone, but among NBA prospects thats not very impressive.

I'm sure Chase would work all summer long in the gyms.

10% is considered good for elite athletes.

The Rocket's target bodyfat % was 10% for NBA veteran Yao. :) Yao did a little better at 9.3%.

Just admit you have watched very little of this guy and admit you made a mistake during your knee jerk analysis. Athleticism has to equal to STRENGTH??? No explosion?

Budinger has some flaws, but lack of athleticism is not one of them. Unless you were TRYING to talk about his lack of lateral quickness, your analysis is completely off.

I didnt say he lacked athleticism, I just dont think the ahleticism he displayed in college will translate into the NBA. Were talking about totally different athletes he will be competing against. Its no longer something he can rely on. His shooting will be what keeps him in the league.

i agree completely. doesn't look like he'll be getting past many defenders in a faster league of better players. but playing against a guy like shane in practice would help him a lot. hopefully he can learn from a good defensive player in shane to get better in the areas team's and analysts thought he was weak in.

I was surprised too,I expected him to be faster than that. Maybe he has slowed down? Does he have stamina issues? If that's his natural speed level,I can see why he fell into the 2nd round.

I think he could contribute if he picks up the system early. His coaches rave about his team first mentality and bball IQ. If he learns how to play off of Yao and our other stars, he will make the roster because we need a bigger 2 guard like him who can beat you with either his long range shot and his playmaking/passing skills. He should focus on being as efficient as possible. High shooting percentage, high assist/TO ratio.

He performed better than most of the other small forwards in the agility drills at the combines so I don't think he is as slow-footed as you make him out to be.

You make it sound like he will be capable of doing nothing except hitting spot-up jumpers in the NBA. He has more athleticism than Ron Artest or Shane Battier. If he's smart and works hard, he should have a decent career - and one that involves more than planting himself at the 3 point line on offense and watching opposing players blow past him on defense.

I guess what I'm trying to say is his perceived lack of athleticism (though most scouts are high on him in this area) should not be a problem. Toughness and grit seem to be the question mark areas.

Not sure if these have been posted already, but they relate to some of the stuff you guys are discussing. Specifically his athletic ability and how he feels it will translate to the NBA.

From never watching him play other than in highlights heres what jumps out at me:

He looks slow moving, but quick, if that makes any sense. Like he will explode past his man and leisurely stroll to the basket. In the NBA this will give time for help defenders to adjust and cut him off. He is long however and creative with his shot, ie high arcing shots and bankers off the top. He kind of reminds me of Dirk in a way and we all know how effective he is.

I think he could be successfull in the NBA for a few years, but once his athleticism falls off, he will fall down the path of the dissapearing Shawn Kemp imo.
