Memphis Reportedly Shopping Rudy Gay http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=tsn-memphisreportedlysho&prov=tsn&type=lgns
would love to make the playoffs and believes it’s a veteran defensive presence away from getting there.
Not surprised at all. You have an owner that plans to keep his payroll under $50M and a talented but flawed star due for a monster payday. The Grizzlies already have plenty of offensive firepower so you can pretty much figure out the rest here.....
This team suddenly has too many mouths to feed on the offensive end and not nearly enough defenders. Gay is likely to command a huge salary, so Memphis would be acting in their best interests to try and trade him now for someone who will fit into their system better.
Gay for Battier (no pun intended...haha..that's funny, well anyway), would be interesting . . .don't know if I'd do it. Ariza for Gay (in heartbeat, we stay in the playoff race and possibly challenge for homefield in one round). Don't understand why people are so committed (or think have to be married) to Ariza, when in fact teams (even the Rockets) have let better players go after trading for them or recently signing them. I almost don't even care, if Gay has any baggage or not, Ariza will never be as good or have the potential that Gay does. Also, the things that we are expecting from Ariza (defense and complimentary scoring) could do it a ten-fold. The kid can learn to become a great defender or be adequate on team defense. Everyone seems to focus on the future, I believe Gay would give us a better chance of winning in the future. He could certainly be considered for being resigned as FA (depending on how he plays down the stretch). He doesn't have to be our franchise player or anything, but another building block (for the right price). Plus, the guy is only 21 (most of the other SG, I've seen posters mention are either injury prone or closing in on 30). Much rather see Ariza go than Battier. I know Battier hasn't played well, this year, but he is still our best perimeter defender and Mr. intangibles. He could take Gay under his wing, defensively (if both stay with the team).
im so tired of all these freakin rumors, i want something to happen now asap, i would give my right arm for it now!
Rudy is 23, I believe. He'd be a great scoring punch for a package around Ariza. He's young to build around and healthy, too!
lol, same thing I was thinking....and folks that know me know I like Battier. If they are looking for a veteran defensive player, that is a perfect description of Battier. With all the players that need the basketball in their hands in Memphis, he would actually fit right in there....honestly not real sure I would really like that move tho...he still has a use here in that role.
Good, now that Rudy has completed his training with the Rockets AAA affiliate, it is time to call him up with the big league club. The same thing happened with Kyle Lowry last season.
rudy gay plays a big part in their success this year. but i think it's due to him wanting a big contract.
You'd have a challenge making the numbers work. Rudy makes about $3.5 mil. Shane makes nearly $7 mil. Trevor nearly $6 mil. Memphis has about 2 million cap space available. They have no big-money guys after Randolph.
